(Alrighty, I'll change the temperament now.
Got your PM. Also, I have a copy of the original In-Character Short/Backstory you originally sent me. Do you want me to send you it back so you've got it?)

There are only a handful of inns in Thatchburg, not that you'd expect so few in a decent trading town such as this. However, clan conflicts and disputes between those that reign over the Centaur city keep inn numbers low and inn size high. How big the clan-owned inns are built easily makes up for their small numbers.

The first inn you come across that suits your needs is 'The Broken Beer-Barrel'. 'Very difficult to say, but very easy to stay!' is the motto that is written underneath the lengthy sign that bears its name. It doesn't look like a quiet inn, what with its tavern on the ground floor letting the sounds of loud, bawling song loose from its wide-open doors; on the other hand you can't see too much conflict going on around it at first glance, and it looks fairly well kept.

Thatchburg is fairly consistent. That's why you can be safe in saying that there isn't a shadier part of the place - it's just Thatchburg, which means clan conflict, thievery and respectively a lot of coin to be made, making trading there worth the risk. It's hard to tell where honest yet ambitious traders' markets end, and where the stolen and contraband goods' markets begin.

Brazentalons trots in after you, scanning the crowded room alongside you.

The cold draft that follows the pair of you causes a frizzy-haired head to pop up from behind a messy counter just by the doorway. "Please, please, shut the door quickly!" she squeaks, flapping a hand at you. "It's taken all morning to get this place warmed up."

You ask her about books on enchanted rings. She frowns, tapping the end of a writing quill to her chin as she thinks. "Err... enchanted rings..? Well, we have a 'Ancient Magical and Powerful Items' shelf at the back," she points with the quill, "that might have what you're looking for. Other than that, can't think of anything of that description."

I thank her and walk towards where she pointed. "Maybe the dwarves know more about the rings than us," I say quietly, partly to myself and partly to Brazentalons, "jewels are kind of their thing." I look through the titles on the shelf, trying to see if any mentioned rings or looked like they had a good chance of having the information we needed.

(Alrighty then, thanks. Makes my half-cooked ideas make a little more sense if I do :P)

Though your feet sink audibly into the crackling snow, the figure doesn't react. When you get close enough to barely feel the critical warmth from their fire, you realise that the stranger is asleep sitting up. Yellowed tusks glow in the firelight as what is clearly an orc slumbers with a wide-open mouth, drooling slightly.

This orc is sound asleep in the warmth of his fire, wrapped up in blankets with his packs by his side. Markings on his cheeks remind you of those you can remember your goblin kidnappers bore, yet this orc is all alone. Surprisingly, you can see no weapons on him at all.

"From that trader's strong reaction, I'm inclined to agree with you," Brazentalons nods, replying in hushed tones.

Looking through the titles, unfortunately, brings no luck. Most of these books can only be works of fiction, the others too old and degraded to be understood, a handful filled with nothing of meaningful use. There aren't many in the first place - this library appears to focus more on books of elven study topics: works on the natural world around you, the inner workings of mechanical contraptions and the study of the elements.

Your familiar comes to the same realisation. "There are plenty of other libraries in Elvenor," he chirps with a shrug, optimism in his voice.

"Doesn't really seem like the others will have something, but we can stop by one more just in case," I say. I leave the library in search of a bigger one that might have a broader array of subjects.

Well, you're about to find out. The building creaks ominously as you approach the large front doors, after managing to keep your footing as a stair crumbled when you stepped on it.

Again, nothing new makes itself apparent. The whole town was quiet, what with most of its inhabitants most likely out working in the mines of the foothills. But comparitively, the grounds of this manor still manage to seem dead.

Under your knuckles, the doors suddenly blow open with a gust of wind, the passageway beyond gaping darkly. A voice echoes from somewhere further along the hallway, sounding busy.

"Come in, come in!" a man's voice calls. "I've been waiting for you! Third door on the left, hurry now, please!"

Asteria signals for the group to stay where they were for now.
"Sir I saw your job offering," She speaks as she quickly goes there while watching for anything dangerous, "If I may ask are you planning on restoring the manor?"

The biggest library in Elvenor with the greatest collection of books would be the Grand Library. Elven councils, for generations upon generations, have been ensuring its safety and growing wealth of knowledge from across Anaia.

"The Grand Library will probably be our best bet," Brazentalons suggests. "Even if we can't find what we're looking for in the main concourse... it is rumoured that there is a private library secured for the elven councils eyes only there."

Numbat gives you a thumbs up, staying by the young beasts at the edge of the manor grounds.

Creaking floorboards mark your swift steps as you enter the darkened hallway. It's difficult to see where you are going, let alone look for hazards, but one, two and finally the third door appear in the gloom as you pass by.

"Yes, yes, I need a water carrier. And desperately!" the third door opens with a creak as you near, spilling light out into the hallway. A figure is silhouetted against the light, and after a moment you can see an aged dwarf in colourful robes with a pointy hat on his head. "Restoring the manor? My dear, if I had enough gold to restore this dump, I wouldn't need a water carrier, would I?" he adds cryptically.

He beckons you in, stepping away from the door to reveal a small room beyond. A fire burns weakly in a hearth, revealing counters and tables topped with vials and various chemicals. Liquids bubble over small fires, strange colours moving between vessels via glass tubes.

"Now, I have various brews on the go at the moment," he says, gesturing to his work. "Lots of potions to be made! And this batch, as you may have deduced, is concocted with one critically important ingredient: water. And lots of it! I'm too frail to fetch it myself, and my alchemy project can't wait for it any longer. Are you not here to run a water-carrying errand? On you go then, hurry!"

He speaks rapidly, so that almost as soon as you arrived he is shooing you out of the door again.

Well, its a maube'weaponless orc with a ready made fire. Nicote walks to the front of him, then settles himself ont he opposite side of the fire.

Oh yeahz he can defintiely hear th e voices of certain smarter folks telling at him in his head that this is a bad idea. Oh well, he hasnt died yet so heXll be totally fine. Might as well get some sleep here.
