Numbat gives you a thumbs up, staying by the young beasts at the edge of the manor grounds.
Creaking floorboards mark your swift steps as you enter the darkened hallway. It's difficult to see where you are going, let alone look for hazards, but one, two and finally the third door appear in the gloom as you pass by.
"Yes, yes, I need a water carrier. And desperately!" the third door opens with a creak as you near, spilling light out into the hallway. A figure is silhouetted against the light, and after a moment you can see an aged dwarf in colourful robes with a pointy hat on his head. "Restoring the manor? My dear, if I had enough gold to restore this dump, I wouldn't need a water carrier, would I?" he adds cryptically.
He beckons you in, stepping away from the door to reveal a small room beyond. A fire burns weakly in a hearth, revealing counters and tables topped with vials and various chemicals. Liquids bubble over small fires, strange colours moving between vessels via glass tubes.
"Now, I have various brews on the go at the moment," he says, gesturing to his work. "Lots of potions to be made! And this batch, as you may have deduced, is concocted with one critically important ingredient: water. And lots of it! I'm too frail to fetch it myself, and my alchemy project can't wait for it any longer. Are you not here to run a water-carrying errand? On you go then, hurry!"
He speaks rapidly, so that almost as soon as you arrived he is shooing you out of the door again.
Asteria hurries out the door, "Let's go. Crimson, Emberpaw remember our deal. I'm gonna go get the water. How many bucket do you think he needs?"
The biggest library in Elvenor with the greatest collection of books would be the Grand Library. Elven councils, for generations upon generations, have been ensuring its safety and growing wealth of knowledge from across Anaia.
"The Grand Library will probably be our best bet," Brazentalons suggests. "Even if we can't find what we're looking for in the main concourse... it is rumoured that there is a private library secured for the elven councils eyes only there."
"Even if such a thing exists, I'm not sure if I want to risk getting in trouble with the council for it. If the Grand Library doesn't have what we need, we can just leave the city and find someone some other place who does," I say and stroke his feathers, "but thanks for the input, Brazentalons."
I listen to the carol singers and look at the festive decorations as we make our way to the Grand Library.

Much-needed warmth soaks into your bones as you sit afront the slumbering orc. Good idea or not, you've secured a source of heat for the night. At this time of year, that's a life or death situation.
You wake to the sound of a loud, startled grunt. The fire is down to embers, the hard ground has you aching and the cold is setting in again. Snowclouds gather overhead, a warning of worse weather to come and dulling the light from the risen sun.
The orc is awake and is scrambling to his feet, eyes wide. "You!" he growls, his face startled and his finger pointed straight at you. "W-what... when... hey!"
*You feel hungry*

Numbat shrugs, looking lost. "No clue. The well is all the way back down at the bottom of the road though... we're going to have to go so far lugging water all the way."
Crimson and Emberpaw shake their heads, faces blank. "Sorry, I don't know, and I'm not even able to help carry anything," she says, ears drooping.

The cheerful singing and decorations fill you with determination. (:P)
Brazentalons nods with a chirrup as you head to the Grand Library. The streets are getting busy with last-minute shoppers, market stalls crowded by mobs of elves and the like bartering for goods and gifts. The word on the street is that it will snow sometime soon.
The Grand Library stands out as soon as you enter the square afront it. Fountains gurgle and benches are filled with people, some chatting, others reading books in their laps. Trees line the main path up to the library, decorated with tinsel and baubles, candles glowing warmly from the frosty branches.
The two of you climb up the carpeted front steps to the wide open doors. Two guards stand on either side, the one on the left holds up a hand as you near.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, but familiars are disallowed from entering the Grand Library," he says apologetically.
Brazentalons' feathers fluff up some more, this time not from the chilly air. He shoots an offended glance at you, tilting his head questioningly.

"It's alright Crimson," Asteria says gently petting her, "This is going to long day so why don't we get started?"

Her tail wags happily at the attention. "Okay!"

You and Numbat haul buckets full of water for most of the day. It is far from a simple job. Pail after pail you pour into the alchemist's caudron, never seeming to fill it. Again and again, he sends you right back down the street to the well for more.
By the time the sun has dipped to the horizon, silhouetting mountains to the west, Numbat has long since dropped out, taking a rest on the crumbling steps of the manor. Thankfully, the alchemist finally raises a hand and gestures for you to put the bucket down.
"Thank you, and your small friend," he says at length. "You have done more than enough and my brew has been spared from failure. Here is your payment for your efforts."
You have received 1 Small Gold Pouch (Carrying 15G - Max. 25)
You are now exhausted after carrying full buckets of water up and down the hill

(Quick question did I choose the hardest job on that list?)
"Thanks for your help Numbat," Asteria says as she hands Numbat half of the gold in the pouch, "Why don't we take a small rest then go back down to the village to get supplies?"
