(ohmegod, I'm not the only person who haggles :o
Right enough, you're technically a charisma level short of being able to haggle, but I'm not going to discourage you)
Brazentalons bodges a serious nod as the stall owner raises an eyebrow.
"Oh? I've been working for a long while today, poppet," the woman straightens her ridiculously coloured apron. "Well, Chillfest is the season of generosity, after all," she admits, caving in. She carries on: "I might be able to cope with a coin or two fewer... name your price."
I felt a bit bad for her after she said that. She'll probably be fine with just one coin off the regular price though. "Seven coins," I say and take out the gold and hand it over to her.
(Slight side effect of stinginess?)

The woman at the desk accepts the coats and boots, placing them on the counter as she reads the price tags attached to them.
"That'll be 9G per jacket and 6G per pair of boots," the woman says, waiting expectantly.
Numbat counts that on his fingers, sticking his tongue out as he checks the gold he has on hand quickly. "I can pay for my half," he says quietly to you before addressing the trader. "I can live with that sum... almost. How about we drop the price a little?"
The dwarf's face is stony as she regards Numbat, who - even in a building built with shorter people in mind - has to stand on his toes to see over the counter properly. "I have a respectable business to run here," she says flatly. "If you won't pay the full price for the clothing, I would kindly advise you to find the door."
Numbat frowns as his attempt at haggling fails. "Nevermind," he mutters, fishing the coins from his gold pouch that he'll need to pay for his half of the goods.

(Aha, I'd thought so. I was sure you'd mentioned it before. No worries ^.^)
You eat a Food Thing, and no longer feel hungry. The nourishment fuels your exhaustive fire magic as it keeps you alive.
As you both step onto the road, you can feel heat rising from its stony surface through your shoes. The Adventurer's Road is enchanted with fire magic to clear the Chillsky snows from it, clearly marking it out against the white sheet that has blanketed everything else.
"Now, east," the orc says shortly, and you both turn at a right angle to your original path.
You encounter no other travellers as you both walk, the sun rising in the sky and then falling once more. As nightfall soon approaches, the chill having thoroughly worked its way into your bones, you both encounter an abandoned cart off to the side of the road.
The orc huffs, his breath clouding in the air. "We loot whatever is left, move on." He moves forward to see if anything has been left behind by the previous owners of the cart. For some reason, the cart seems strangely familiar.

(The best of traits)
She purses her lips, considering the offer. Despite your shortfalling in charisma, she eventually comes round. She beams at you as she accepts the 7 coins and exchanges them for the two loaves of bread.
"Enjoy your bread, and hope you've had a merry Chillfest!" she says cheerily.

Asteria frowns at the dwarf's treatment of Numbat before putting the full amount of coins down for her gear.
"Come on Numbat let's leave," Asteria mutters giving the dwarf a cold glare.

"You too," I say and wave farewell. I shift the blanket as I walk past the busy market stalls and towards the city gates. "I sure hope we can make it to Adventurer's Crossroads before nightfall. Do you want to fly over there or make our way on foot?" I ask Brazentalons.

The dwarf takes the gold from the pair of you and bids you a good day with a neutral expression.
You part with 15G and obtain Thick Jacket and Winter Boots
Outside the shop again, in the air steadily getting colder with the departing sun, Numbat lets out a sigh. "The Territory Wars are long past, but still goblins are awarded no mercy. Nevermind. I can't excuse the terrors that were committed during the times of roving orc and goblin warbands."
Numbat shivers in the cold, putting on his new jacket and boots. "Not bad. I feel warmer already," he says in a forced cheery tone. He looks down at Shootingstar, then back at you. "What now? Are we carrying on into the mountains, or is there anything else we need to do first?"

"On foot it will take at least a couple of days of solid walking" Brazentalons muses as you both thread your way through the bustling crowds going this way and that. "Flying, and we're still going to have to set down for the night at least once. If you prefer the comparitively quicker option, I don't mind carrying you, but it's up to you."
Reaching the city gates, you can see that there isn't too big a queue filtering past the guards there. Not many people are travelling at this time of year.

"If Shootingstar wouldn't mind I'd like to see if I can get a bow to help protect us," Asteria answers, "Besides it's getting dark and we probally can't travel very well in the dark."
