This is based off the gift/flower part of the holiday. Red roses with their green stems often accompanied by flickering candles for a nice dinner (or maybe a flashy ring). The gene/mutations were spent to further the floating, head in the clouds feeling you can find yourself swept into.

I've seen so many chocolate or pink/red luffoxes that I can't possibly come up with something that hasn't already been done. So... I decided to base my entry off of the lovebird:
They are known for their strong monogamous pairs, and the long periods these pairs spend sitting together (says Wikipedia).
And the luffox:
I tried to keep to the general coloration I saw on lovebirds (dark face, green/yellow on body). Since some kinds of lovebirds had sort of a peachy color as well, I added in the runes with that color. And of course, wings. Don't tell her that they're not big enough to fly with. You'll hurt her feelings.

mine is based on chocolate. c: more specifically dark chocolate with milk chocolate drizzled on it, filled with strawberry cream, because chocolate is super popular for valentines.

So, for Valentine's Day, I don't like roses. I love carnations so I always tell my boyfriends to get me these beautiful flowers! They can be any color really...but these are my favorite I guess. :)

Now not everyone sees Valentine's Day as a cheerful holiday. There's those that it's bitter and dark either because their alone or have just broken up (I've known a few whose broken up ON Valentine's Day or right before). So Mine is on the darker side as a tribute to those who have broken hearts on the day.
