I like the older male better. He looked sly with that smirk on his face, like he knew something we didn't. It gave him some major personality. Now he just looks...ordinary. He looks bored, like a guy on a shopping trip with his girl, praying it will end already. lol Ah well, can't please everyone and they're still awesome. I'm not complaining. As a whole, they're great.

I so definitely agree! I love the old male and female better: slim body, less fluff, yes!

We went ahead and added a tiny little smirk.

Long narrow snout and tiny little smirk. Perfect!

Fair, just wanted to let you know I'm in no way attacking your choices, it's just that sometimes the girls seem ultra feminine to the point that other people have made that they no longer look like the same species. Others have mentioned the Morrko again where they look like two separate bear species; If they looked more similar, I think things like eyelashes and little feminine quirks wouldn't look so jarring. (To me, at least!) I totally understand your want to have girly pets, and I think a lot of pets accomplish the best of both worlds- Like the Faelora, Qitari, and the Zolnixi both pre and post revamp. C:

And of course, this is your game, you've put in all the blood, sweat, and tears to make it amazing for everyone. So you should certainly have pets that fulfill what you want to do! I really appreciate though how open you guys are to player input and constructive criticism and you're willing to share why you make the choices you do.

I absolutely LOVE the updated lineart, male smirk included.

Just wanted to include a point directly to Fai to say that I completely agree with you on the female/male lineart situation. There is no need to make cartoon pets "gender neutral". This is a pet site, we're not talking about gender stereotypes and other real world issues. The female pets are just as worthy in battle and can do everything male pets can do. The only difference is that they appear more dainty and feminine and are easy to tell apart from the male. I have a nostalgia and appreciation for the way the male/females are drawn when thinking to how male/female is portrayed in fantasy and old Disney for example. I believe that Faiona's vision of the sexual differences adds to the magic of the site and I would hate to see it change. The artists are not drawing accurate representations of foxes. They are drawing Zolnixies. It is nice to have "pretty" pets and "fierce" pets, but it is also nice to make the "pretty" pets fierce in battle, which is more than possible on the site. The poses are nothing but aesthetic and I think they are very pleasant.

I would also add though that I agree the Morkko is TOO different, but then it is well known that the Morkko needs a redraw so putting effort into nitpicking it seems silly. The way redraws are being handled I'm sure as and when the Morkko's time comes the lady will be lovely, and so will the male.

Just wanted to add my 2c that I'd hate to see the differences stripped away due to real life influences on a fantasy site :)

I agree with this so much. ^^

If the male and female pets looked too identical, it would remove some of the variety from the game....

I would just like to clarify and add to the post I made a few pages back.

I didn't intend this to be seen as a real life gender issue at all I wasn't trying to insult anyone or say there was anything wrong with the way that the female and male pets are visually different, and that making the females one way makes them bad.

I also wasn't trying to say that all the pets should look exactly the same.

My issue was and is solely with the fact that while they should be different enough to tell apart and have a human-esque (cartoony) influence as well as the fact that animals do have differences when it comes to sex, that some of the species have the differences drawn to an extreme and to me it makes them seem as if they don't match each other. That's all. I did have a bit of a stand on the way that most of the female and male designs seem to be a little similar, but that was very secondary to my point and was just a call for a bit more variety (which as Fai pointed out, does exist in the cases of the Aeri and Luffox, etc.)

But really, I'm sorry if I made anyone feel attacked or insulted, it wasn't meant to be a real life parallel at all, honestly.

Krin and Fai I want you two to know that, while I have been away from the site for a while and just started returning in the last few months, I think the changes you have done to the site are wonderful. It's great that you two put so much time and energy into keeping this site a great place to spend time with virtual pets and friends. Though some of the revamps took some time to adjust to I don't see anything that has come out badly. The best thing about this site is that you two are always working to improve upon it and take suggestions from the players on things that can use improvement and things that are already great. It is rare to find admins that care so much for their online community and I am grateful that I found this site and watched it grow.

So now that my little message is out of the way...other than a couple minor things I don't see much difference between the new and old nixis. Personally, except for maybe some extra details to the design itself, I don't think the nixis really needed much improvement. They are so nicely designed in the first place that it's no wonder that they became one of the most loved pets on the site.

With that I'm off to enjoy the site that I love most...

I agree with a lot of people, the male needs the smirk. It makes him look sly. Other than that they look good.
