Ygure, Bringer of Night
(Ygure is Japanese for dusk)
Note: This is a shortened version of what I wanted to write, which won't fit into 3 paragraphs or less.
Ygure wasn't always named Ygure. She used to be named Tay, short for Traitor. Her pinkish coloring was a sign of disloyalty to her tribe, Night. She was told she looked like sunrise, which is a terrible insult to the Night Kelpari. She was forced to do the worst jobs and eat last. As a result, she was much smaller and skinnier than the other Night kelpari her age. One night, though, as a group of kelpari kicked and taunted her, she was defended. Her defender was a handsome male kelpari about her age, who was the tribe elder's son. Everyone knew and respected him. The kelpari immediately backed off, and she was left alone with him. "You okay?" He asked. "I... I'm fine." Ygure replied, timidly staring at him. "You're quiet, you know that?" He said.
"I don't speak much."
"Reasonable excuse." He smiled.
After that, the two kelpari spent more and more time together. She knew him as Altair. Altair called her Ygure, which he explained meant dusk. "You're not a traitor. You're the opposite of sunrise. Someday, the others will see." He would say, nuzzling her cheek.

Luscofusco was born with an insatiable curiosity for everything. He was the hatchling that never stopped asking questions and always tried to go exploring on his own. His world was small: his family and the lake where they lived. However Luscofusco new that there were many things out there for him to discover.
His parents lived with the constant worry that he would one day stray too far from home and get lost, so they never let him out of their sight. Or at least they tried. It's amazing how fast a determined hatchling can be, and no one can stay vigilant all the time.
When the inevitable happened Luscofusco's parents nearly lost their mind and spent a whole day looking for him. Then, just as the last rays of sun were about to fade, they spotted their son approaching them from the west. He looked like the sunset was his mantle, and they had never seen anything more beautiful. When he got closer they realized that the colors of nightfall wouldn't leave him. Something magical had happened while he was away and now the dusk would be part of him forever.

"Once upon a time..."
A young, beautiful Kelpari had associated these four words with the tale of Echo and Narcissus, the story his mother had always told him as a colt. Now fully grown, it was the same story his mother used against him. His concerned mother had been catching him preening before a mirror lately, gazing at his own stunning image. Time and time again, she warned the foolish stallion. "Step away from the glass, my dearest son, lest you become Narcissus himself."
Weeks passed without heeding his mother's warning. In the Kelpari's eyes, there was no harm in what he was doing and no reason to stop. Slowly, his obsession swelled at the expense of his loved ones. Even his betrothed could not capture his attention. His mother pleaded with the mare, then called Silvana, to break his endless gaze. "My love," Silvana begged, "won't you pay us any attention?" but to her dismay, the stallion only commanded she leave him be.
Still not losing hope, she visited him everyday with the same message, praying that one day he would accept her request. It was roughly a month later, their wedding day, when her handsome fianc snapped at her. "Are you nothing but an echo?!" he berated her with a look devoid of affection, bringing the graceful mare to tears. Frustrated and hurt by his words, Silvana slipped out a curse upon her arrogant husband-to-be, trapping him within the mirror he had been so enraptured by. Now, she thought, he would be available whenever she needed.
As years went on, Silvana passed away, leaving her husband trapped forever. He had long since regretted his choices and the life he subjected his family to. If ever he were to be discovered, he vowed to introduce himself as Narcissus, warning travelers of his tale.

Storm
The waves slammed against the side of the ship. The wind howled and blew, while rain pounded across the old wood. Thunder crashed in the distance, shaking the water with every blow. The whole crew was soaked, but they kept working despite the raging storm surrounding them. "We may have to go underneath soon; this storm is getting out of hand!" the Captain yelled above the crashing and pounding. Another CRASH of thunder shook the entire ship, making it rock from side to side. Then, there was a strange noise, louder than the rest of the storm, yet strangely quiet. The waves became so violent that the ship had become something close to a ginormous rocking horse. The noise continued, and an eerie glow began rising out of the water in front of the small ship. As the glow rose higher and higher, the noise became louder and louder until it became what sounded like a chorus of voices. The crew watched in amazement as what looked like a miniature, blue, sun began changing and shifting shape. The shape the blasted into a huge wave of light. The crew covered their eyes and their ears rang as if they had just taken a blow to the head. Finally, when they opened their eyes, the storm was over. Quiet fell upon the ocean, and the waves, once roaring and slamming against the ship, now lapped calming at the side, the sun shining off their aqua color. The orb was now gone, and in it's place was a tiny, stormed-colored Kelpari. The crew gasped as it spread it's wings and flew towards them. It landed on the deck with a small squeak, and looked around.
Once the crew reached their destination, the captain decided he would keep the tiny Kelpari, at least until he could find a better home for it. But by the time the captain had to set out on his next trip, he still could not find anyone.
When no one claimed the little Sylesti, the captain finally chose that he would raise the Kelpari himself. He named it Storm, after the magnificent storm in which the Kelpari came to the ship.

Title/special name: Lanikai, or Heavenly Sunset Kelpari
Lanikai means "Heavenly Waters", and that is exactly where he comes from. Born under the Hawaiian sunset, he was blessed with the warmth and love of the sun. His scales and fins radiate the soothing colors and heat of the sunset, and with it, he heals and makes his home beautiful. Every night, Lani swims through the reef of his home, healing dead patches and restoring vibrancy and life. Lanikai lives alone, though the entire ocean is is friend.
While swimming one night, Lanikai was captured by some fishermen and sold to the local aquarium where he was kept for a time. The poor creature was miserable, swimming through his shallow containment pool and watching people, who stared in awe at his glowing scales. It wasn't long before the employees took careful notice of how truly magical he was and started making him perform in shows, casting spells and performing tricks like the whales that lived there as well. Lanikai eventually found joy in reinvigorating the poorly kept wildlife in the aquarium, making them strong and full of energy...so full of energy in fact, that they were beginning to be too much for keepers to handle.
The Kelpari watched in glee as workers relocated sealife, sending the creatures off on a new adventure. The creatures there had found a new light and they were simply too much for the handlers, and so they were being hauled off, returning to their natural homes. Soon the aquarium was put out of business and Lanikai used a burst of energy to destroy his own miserable tan and return to the ocean. He watched the establishment for days to make sure the aquarium never reopened...until it did. The doors eventually came open as a rehabilitation center for hurt, sick, or orphaned sealife.
(Lanikai, the name of a poor betta whose days I made happy until he died. RIP, Lani, my little Heavenly waters.)

Dreamdance was born out of dreams and color, the physical embodiment of a fantasy, and a patron to the bioluminescent wonders of he deep. She is never to be found where those are looking, but where those are not looking she appears. It is said that if you find her, or rather, if she finds you, she will grant would with one wish. She is said to be an Oracle who happens to appear at opportune times. She has a great power, with which she does not wield in war, but in peace.

This is Shooting Star. She always had an interest in the study of luminescence. She was also very gifted in it. Her talent was finally recognized when she perfected the formula for luminescent pearl armor. The leader of the kelpari saw she had talent and appointed her this special job: to place the stars in the night sky and make sure they glow brightly. Sometimes, as she pushes the stars into the sky, she leaves a trail, creating the appearance of a shooting star.
