Volcano

``Oh thank you, Hunter! Who is this fierce warrior?`` Zima asked, enlivened again at the prospect of having a better chance to save Zuri. ``I must head to that Volcano right away!``

``Calm down, young one. You will be on your way soon enough, but before you leave, there are a few more things I need to inform you of regarding this warrior.`` The Hunter warned.

``Firstly, it will be a harsh journey. That Volcano is not able to be climbed by just anybody, let alone a couple of mere hatchlings.`` She started, eyeing Yae and Zima who were staring at her attentively.

``Secondly, if you are able to manage the climb, you will need to find this fierce warrior. He is called the Mountain King.`` Rummaging in a pouch settled beside her, she fished out an image of the warrior.

1.

``And lastly, once you find him, you will need to gather his attention by reciting the Prayer of the Mountain King. Only after this, will he help you.`` She concluded.

``I will read the speech to you only once, so make sure to listen carefully.``

Yae and Zima nodded, ears perked.

``It goes like this:

To the lord of these mighty ranges,
We beg and plead for you to save us,
And assist us with our dangerous quest,
Are we to turn north, or due west?
For all we have we give to you,
So please help us, and bid us adieu.
``

Zima and Yae thanked The Hunter, before rushing off towards the Volcano.

"What should we call him?" Yae asked, still shivering.
"No one knows his name," the Hunter answered, "not even I."
Zima nodded. "Are you going to join us on the journey, Hunter?" The lunemara shook her head.
"I am afraid not. I am one of the shadows and I wish not for many to see me. However, I would like to be of help. Give me your paw, Zima." Zima lifted her paw and the Hunter grasped it with her furry hands. The Hunter pressed her fingers to Zima's paw and Zima felt a slight burning sensation, followed by a short cooling feeling. When she examined her paw, there was a small marking in the image of lunemara wings.
"Now, if you ever need my help, simply utter my name and I will be there at once. A warning, though, you are only able to summon me once." the Hunter commented.

"What's his name?" Zima asked, but the Hunter shook her head. "He has many names, but only one true name. Those who learn it do not tell, so you must learn his name for yourselves, if you can." The Hunter replied, before nodding down the rugged mountain slopes. "Go. Time may prove precious." The Hunter said.

Zima nodded and knelt to let Yae climb upon her back, before making her way down the slopes. As they went, Yae glanced back and her eyes widened slightly. The Hunter was gone, just like that! Just as if she'd vanished into smoke.

She said nothing about it though, as Zima painstakingly picked her way down the mountain, until they came to a river. As Zima stopped for a moment to catch her breath, a low, menacing growl echoed from nearby that made Zima's fur stand on end and Yae tremble...

Growls

Zima peered into the dark. "Hello?" she whimpered. What ever it was growled again. Then suddenly, there was a type of howl, and a wolf headed bear with chicken wings, and chicken feet scrambled out of its spot. It raised its head and howl/growl/sqwaked. It was a very confusing animal. And one that could be confused easily. Yae burrowed herself in Zima's fur when she didn't move for a few seconds.

"Run!" she yelped as Zima took off. Zima heard it on her tail, but suddenly it was cut off, and it yelped as if in pain. She risked a glance at either her hero, or stronger opponent. At first glance, it seemed to be her opponent, but when it called out to her, she second thought. The lighira had wings, so of course it had snuck up on the animal. Zima smiled, and prepared to turn back around, but that was right before she fell off the cliff she didn't see.

Growls

Zima and Yae froze. Then, gingerly Zime crept towards where the growl came from. As she neared, she noticed the opening to a cave in the rock faces of the mountains. Both of them were too scared to go in, so she just called "Hello? We're looking for someone...."
There was no response this time.
They decided to try their luck by going in, venturing forwards into the cave in fear and trepidation. Nothing jumped at them, nothing attacked. But there was always a few scuttles here and there, which made them jump.
Zima tripped over a small rock, as the cave was getting dark, and just over a conveniently placed hole. Then, just like that they slid, screaming and yelping down a long chute, bumping against rocks and yowling.
Finally, they came to a rest. This cavern was different though, it was warm, and lit by a flame somewhere. Suddenly, behind them, a deep rumbling voice said "welcome, young ones. What brings you here?" . . .

Growls

Zima turned, shaking, to see four thickly scales feet with long, sharp talons. As she tilted her head up, the full creature came into view. A nine headed hydra-like beast peered down at her. One head looked angry, probably the one that had growled at her and Yae. Another looked curious, one cautious and another uninterested. Judging, oblivious, frightened... one preening itself, self centred perhaps. Each of them seemed to have their own unique personality. The last lowered itself to be eye to eye with her and Yae.

"Two little adventurers, led astray from all that is familiar. Did you seek us, or are you on the trail of someone else?"

"Both... I think. The Hunter said there was a warrior, one with many names, that we could find by a river. I'm looking for my sister, she's been taken to the Beyond Lands. To the Blood Cascade Coven, the Hunter said. She said the warrior would help us on our journey."

The angry head snorted and the frightened head's eyes darted to the others. The one that talked to her flicked its tongue out. "It is no small task for such small creatures. The Hunter says many things, but to say that we are a fierce warrior is no longer true. We gave up battle long ago." The fearful head nodded frantically.

"Please! You have to help! Surely you can fight again!" Zima tried desperately.

"I've always said we would get a chance to be glorious again," the judging head said. "We've been forgotten, to venture to the Beyond Lands would bring us honour once more! We could become a legend!"

The heads came together, talking to one another in hushed tones. Zima and Yae waited while they made up their minds.

Growls

Zima backed away, praying there wasn't another twig behind her. She ducked behind a log, barely daring to breathe.

And then seven Vorkids emerged from the trees.

Yae barely restrained a yelp. Zima's heart thumped so loudly, she was sure the Vorkids would hear. She was so close to one of them that she could've reached out and touched it. If it turned around, it would see her. There was no escape.

Please leave, please leave, thought Zima, shuddering. Unfortunately, that movement caused Zima's fur to brush Yae's nose. Yae sneezed. "Ah-choo!"

All the Vorkids turned. Without a second thought, Zima dove into the log, nearly knocking Yae off her back. The Vorkids started attacking the log, scratching and tearing at the wood. Zima trembled as the log shuddered under the rain of blows. In a moment, the log would break and the Vorkids would be upon them. Zima closed her eyes and wished it was all a dream, that she would wake up in her den with Zuri beside her. Alas, the nightmare continued.

Then suddenly, the blows stopped, and the sounds of a struggle reached Zima's ears. A moment later, only silence ensued. Sensing that the Vorkids were gone, Zima wriggled out of the log. A huge shadow immediately fell upon her, but before she could react, the stranger said, in a wise, gentle voice, "Never fear, young ones. I mean no harm to you. But you must come with me immediately if you are to save Zuri."

Exactly 250! Boom!
