Balthur takes a couple of steps forward, then realises that he's still connected to the cart. "Kid, untying myself from this cart ain't easy. Go and see if the little fellah needs help."
It's hardly a 'little fellah'. From nose to tail, it's almost as wide as the cart. It isn't covered in feathers of any kind, so that's a start. But from here, you can see glinting claws poking out at an awkward angle from beneath it.

Nicote moves cautiously towareds. "Can't tell what kind of creature it is...." he moves closer.
"Well, it really depends. Are you trading in goods or favours?" Ferren asks. "If you mean buying things with gold... well, the Dwarves hoarded the last of the continent's gold hundreds of years ago, and they never use it to buy things from other Higher creatures. And since the Orcs and Goblins haven't been raiding, let alone seen, outside of their lands for as many years as that, none of the gold has gotten back into trading." He shrugs with a grin. "I read up on a little too much history than I should. But I'd be happy to give you a job to do to earn the bow though."
"Yes, that would work."

It has scales, you realise after a second when the sun reflects oddly off its hide. You realise it has wings, but they're folded back so it covers most of the creature's distinguishable features. Its tail is coiled around it and is covered in blunt spikes.
The sickening imprints of horse hooves puncture a few spots across its back, and from here you can hear the creature wheezing for breath. Its been trampled pretty badly. And from the lack of scars besides these new ones, and its size, you can tell its probably young. Maybe why it got caught out on the road.
The creature shifts a little, and very slowly a head appears from under a wing. A slitted iris... glistening, poison dripping teeth...
It's a Wyvern.

"Good," he says. "Simple task, I want you to go up to his stall and get your Griffin to get its mean face on." Ferren angles his head to Lancaster's stall, the vendor from before with the woodworm infested bows. "I want shot of him for a while. Do it inconspicuously though, I don't want him realising I sent you. He's absolutely petrified by creatures bigger than him, so if you can get your Familiar to get him packing off to another spot, you'll get that bow."

"Uh, alrighty."
I pretend to leave go to another stall next to Lancaster's, then tell to Skywhisper to look menacing and walk back and forth in front of Lancaster.

NIcote blinks. THen kneels down beside the wyven. "what happened o you?" He murmurs.
Crimson shakes her head, one of her ears flopping to the side in an adorable picture of confusion. What would we do that for? her posture seems to say.
"To make sure we get it back to it's family," I tell her.

Skywhisper chirps in understanding, sidling away from you and beginning to pace. He fluffs up his feathers and splays his wings out slightly, staring down anyone who looks at him for more than a second.
From the corner of your eye, you see Lancaster shifting uncomfortably. After a couple of minutes of you stalling with the vendor you're in front of, Lancaster begins to pack away his things. A little while later, when you look again, he's gone. Favour completed!
Skywhisper is preening himself by the time you get back to Ferren's stall. When he sees you, he grins. "Thank you so much. You would not believe how irritating he was - from dawn he's been prattling on and on. Now I can work in peace. Here, take the bow. And a quiver of arrows on the house, you've earned it."
Longbow and 20 arrows added to inventory
Quiver equipped
After learning how to keep up a conversation while stalling for Skywhisper to scare off Lancaster, you feel like you'd ready to do the whole thing again, and a whole lot less awkwardly.

The Wyvern looks at you with a sardonic expression, as if the answer is obvious. It bares its teeth even as its head slumps back to the ground again. It lets out a whimper, which it quickly cuts short. Suspicion and well hidden fear fill its eyes and it lets out a gargling hiss. It doesn't sound good, but the Wyvern's fear seems to be overwhelming it.
