"If theyre goin gstraight to the capital theyll take a direct route. If you think you can manage to figure oit the way there without tracks, we'll go with that and hunker down for now. Otherwise we'll just have to keep moving until the snow starts falling or we need to rest." Nicote shrugs.
(You are on the forest outskirts, so on the border of the two)
"I hope so too," he says, dragging himself over to the side of the 'Road and accepting the feed packet with a relieved expression. "Thanks. This should do me."
On the border between the Eastern Territories and the Central', there is plenty of both types of fuel. Your small hatchet is capable of chopping smaller, fallen branches into pieces and easily cuts you bundles of dry grass.
Neither type of fuel is going to stay dry much longer, however. Heavy clouds have been gathering overhead for much of the day, the sort that dump a layer of snow on you.
Your fire magic is more than enough to start the fire going.
In practicing your gift, your magic strength has increased to level 1
I toss in the Borealis mushrooms in the fire, having no need for them anymore. I chop up some extra branches and put them in the pack in case we needed some more dry fuel later. Noticing the Chillfest gift, I take it out and open the mysterious little box.

(Okay, thanks ^.^)
Spindly fir trees cling to the steep slopes that sweep up and away from you on either side. You're still quite some time away from the valleys hidden away between the mountain peaks, where wood would be much easier to harvest. To get to the wood here, you're going to have to climb the slippery, icy slopes to then harvest the snowy, dampened branches.
As the small creatures huddle together around you, shivering, it looks like no-one is going to say no to a space in a tent tonight.
Numbat scratches his head, eying the land around. "I'll clear a spot for us to put tents on as best I can," he says, getting to work shifting the thick layer of snow from the ground at the side of the mountain path.

The orc thinks about it for a while. "Uhhh..." he grumbles, looking about himself. "We soon reach border; I think I know way from there. Treacherous place, Southern Territories, but no snowing so not so bad. Few routes for them to take safely. We find them. And so, I make fire for us."
The orc kicks at the snow and clears a spot of ground where he then unslings his packs. He releases the clasp on one and firewood tumbles out, which he arranges to make a campfire. He tries to use a firestarter to get the fuel going, but is clearly losing his rag rapidly as sparks fly to no effect.

x4 Borealis Mushrooms removed from inventory
The mushrooms make the fire crackle loudly. For a few seconds while they burn, the fire softly shimmers in greens and purples. Brazentalons looks on with wide, fascinated eyes.
x2 Firewood added to inventory
You open the Chillfest Present to reveal Chillfest Stuffing (8/8).
Brazentalons polishes off the rest of the griffin feed packet and looks across at the contents of the present. "That'll keep us going for a while."

"Let me help." Nicote kneels down and uses his magic to light the fire. "Save the firestarters for when im not around to light them foe you, yeah?"

Asteria helps Numbat clear the snow away from their spot, "I'm not risking that climb sorry. All of you can squeezy into my tent tonight."

"It sure will." I clear the surrounding area of the campfire to the best of my ability so it would be relatively free of debris. I lay next to Brazentalons. "Good night." I close my eyes and try to sleep.

The orc's mouth hangs open in awe. "Okay. I do that. Wish I could do that myself though," he says, his wide eyes lit up by the glowing flames. "Too clumsy to even use firestarters."
After practicing your magic, both actively and passively during your cold day's journey, your magic skill has increased to level 2. All fire-element proficiencies now boosted by +2
Do you wish to set up camp and rest until morning, or have you anything else to do first?

"Shelter's better than nothing," Numbat shrugs. A dark look passes over his face and he continues: "I should have brought firewood from Flintswood forest."
You both clear a little spot and the tents are set up before the heavy snow can undo your work. The young creatures pile in as soon as they can, shivering in the cold. They're small enough that what's just thick snow for you is a serious problem for them. Numbat quickly retreats into his own tent, shaking snow from his shoulders as he goes.
It's a tight fit, but with the cold outside nobody's complaining. With four creatures of the blazing southern continent, the space is soon filled with warmth though.
