Hi Krin, I got a few inquiries and concerns about the new rule.

1) Are we allowed to post 2 themes for the same species? I posted Underwater Ruins Ferrikki. Can I post one more Ferrikki design which has a different theme, colors and traits?

2) About what you mentioned "To clarify, a Design does not equate to a Theme. Multiple players can submit, say, a "Pumpkin Lupora", as long as each player designed their own version"

What if a player come up with his/her original idea like let's say Pumkin Lupora, then someone else saw that Pumkin theme would look best on a Lupora coz the colors looks good on certain traits of the Lupora? Then he/she adjusted most of the colors you it won't look exactly the same then changed 1 or 2 of the traits. Wouldn't that be called stealing ones... not the exact design but ones idea?

What if the one who posted another version of it wouldn't have thought of that idea if he/she didn't see the original design of the one who originally came up with the idea? And then the one who copied ones idea won. how do you think the original designer would feel? Not only that someone stole his/her idea, someone stole his/her chance of winning. I think it's not fair. Unless the one who posted the same theme with the same species late has already posted it in the Generator as proof that it's his/her original design. Coz in the Generator, we can see the date when the design was posted and the date cannot be edited.

I hope you think about it.

Which new rule? I believe these are the same rules these contests have had for quite a while. I just formatted them to have numbers instead of a bunch of paragraphs.

And no, as the first rule states, just one design per species.


To address your second concern, these design contests work best when simplified. In the end, we scour through thousands of designs submitted by sometimes up to a hundred different people. All in all, the whole goal of these "contests" is just to make our content better and get you guys more involved in the generation of that content. These aren't supposed to be strict, competitive, or anything at all of that nature. Therefore, the rules are pretty relaxed in order to maintain that relaxed sense.

All that we more or less ask of players is to just be respectful to each other and if artwork is involved, make sure it's original. To keep things simple for us and simple for you all, it's just much easier to allow multiple people to submit their version of the same theme (as the example goes, say a Pumpkin Lupora). It just would complicate things if we said you couldn't for whatever reason or circumstance we gave. That'd be things we'd have to police and enforce, people would rush and stress to post their "Themed ideas" first before someone else does, and in the end people would still skirt around it by releasing a "Jackolantern Lupora" and then we'd have to police whether or not that constitutes as a Pumpkin Lupora and all that. It would just make things much more unnecessarily complicated.

All in all, these threads are just for everyone to essentially help each other and improve Sylestia and we are pretty much never stingy with how we hand out prizes at the end. If your submission was used in anyway for us to add in new content, you'll get a prize for it.
