Warmth seeps into your frozen bones as your summoned flame crackles in your grasp. You've warmed up, but to improve your magic strength you'll need more practice than that.

When you set down the griffin feed, Brazentalons shifts in his sleep, sniffing at the bag and muttering something about seeds before going still again.

Finishing your meal, it's clear that the other two are going to need a little encouragement to wake up. You tell them to: Brazentalons opens his eyes and jumps as he sees the bag right in front of his face. He chirps sheepishly, thanking you and getting stuck in.

The centuar pushes his wide-brimmed hat back and looks at the two of you with an expression very much like someone who forgot what they'd be waking up to. At your offered breakfast, he shakes his head. "Have my own," he mutters, taking something from his pack.

You no longer feel hungry.

"Sounds good," Skywhisper nods.

The two of you head through the streets of the 'Crossroads, dodging between trundling carts and squeezing through busy marketplaces. Your journey is uneventful as you reach the warehouse district, following Rythia's instructions until the pair of you stand in front of a small shack.

A centaur waits outside, pacing back and forth and kicking at the ground with his hooves.

"He looks like he's been around," Skywhisper notes. "This'll be our trader."

(I just realised - when you first met, Numbat was supposed to part ways with you when you all reached the mountains. Oopsie... bit late for that now :/
Okay, plan B. For plot, pretend for me that Numbat did not display a sense of fear going to the STs, instead a distant and unreadable expression :D)

The mountain path looks fine to you, just like it was when you were heading in the opposite direction though this time, obviously, with your group's old footprints in the snow.

The snow lies thinner at this spot, so it isn't too hard for it to be cleared away for your camp. The tents take a while to put up with weary hands, but eventually you have a campsite set up.

Do you wish to sleep until morning?

(Do you want to pick which 2 tins of food you're sacrificing?)

The orc lets out raucous laughter. He snatches the [whichever tins you go for] from your grasp, pierces them with his tusks and devours their contents on the spot.

"Comedian and master thief of good food. Your visit has made my day less boring," the chief grins. "You may go."

You're skillful acting has kept your group alive - charisma successful

As Spork urges you forward with the staff, the chief begins laughing again. He snatches the weapon from the smaller orc's grasp and snaps it without much effort. "Firewood is not a weapon, Spork," he sneers.

Spork grits his teeth and shoves you forward, and soon the two of you are in the Phoenix Pass with the guards far behind.

"Sorry," he growls, clearly frustrated. "I find you a better weapon to make up for losing your staff."

"Knife, dagger, or bows are better anyways. Staffs feel way too bulky anyways, i was going to need an upgrade at some point." Nicote shrugged, "But we're in, either way. Hopefully we don't have too many hungry guards to deal with, I don't have endless food."

I clear my throat. "Er, excuse me?" I shout after the centaur, waving to get his attention. "Rythia sent us to pick up the seeds." I decide not to take out the money just yet in case he's somehow not the right person.

(I don't quite understand, but I'm just imagining the first thing the centaur sees is Brazentalons turning his head towards them with the bag covering his head)

Amused, I take the bag off of Brazentalons. I try to make a bigger flame to test my limits before stopping once I've reached them. I don't want to use up too much energy when they day has just started. "Well, whenever you guys are ready."

The morning is bitterly cold, the sun hidden behind a thick layer of fog and its warmth nonexistant. You can't see much further down the mountain pass than a handful of metres, and the snow has turned crisp and icy.

Crimson huffs, forming a little cloud in the chill air. She gives you a tired look, far from her usual cheery, animated mood. She does little more than mumble 'hungry', her ears askew.

You're hungry and fatigued.

(Tin of fruit [weight 1] and tin of meat [weight 3] removed from inventory)

Spork nods, a determined glint in his eyes. "I not forget. I repay my debt to you, soon."

He looks above the two of you, where the cliffs of the 'Pass tower high overhead. "Yes... though now, we have phoenix to worry about. We lucky it not Sunsky, when they nest. We only have a couple of lone fire birds to deal with, rather than territorial parents."

You've both got a long walk through the Phoenix Pass ahead of you. The only positive is that you could catch up to Spork's old clan before you reach its end... but only if you're quick. Time's running out, and Boulder is only a couple of days' travel from here.

"What's our pace?" Spork asks. "If we are to catch up with your friends?"

His head darts up and he squints for a moment, before giving a lopsided smile. "Oh, hello!" he greets you both. "Yes, I have her order here." He offers a hand to shake. "Name's Balthur. I trade from Elvenor all the way to the western islands."

"Just the two of you..? Do you not have a wagon or anything?" he asks, his face puzzled. "Oh! Or did she forget to tell you both how many seeds she'd ordered?" he chuckles. "That'd be Rythia all right."

I shake his hand. "Phoenicia, this is Skywhisper. And, er... she did talk an awful lot about what she was going to do with them, but I don't think she said how many..." I say thoughtfully. I produce the bag of gold. "Perhaps you could just give us as many as this can pay for?"
