Perhaps you could write a story about a huge war that was going on in the past before humans arrived at the land. A war between the species over something extremely valuable.

You're fine, it was more of a question for myself. Perhaps the war was fought over something magical, and the item put the battling leaders into suspended animation, then a modern sylesti comes along and accidentally reanimates them?
