Out of the thick as soup shadows stared the bloody eyes of a skull faced female. " I can tell you what you want to know, for a price.. " her voice seemed to both rasp and hiss at the same time. " I ventured away from the blood cascade at penalty of terrible consequence towards myself. This journey if you choose to come with me, will be perilous, you must trust me completely or you will not survive. Not many of the cascade are as, well, open minded as I am.. "
The snake at the tip of her tail flicked its tongue, looking smug and curious all at once. " If the blood cascade are allowed to complete the ritual you will never see your sister again. Even worse, if they do as they wish, neither you nor any others , will ever see the sun again. So you must choose, come with me, or risk a world of neverending darkness.. "

"I believe you, my kit." The motherly seeming Vulnyx said gently. She gave Zuri a gentle smile. "My name is Tori, my little one." She added, before turning aside. "Wait, wh-" Zuri began, but Tori looked back, speaking as she did.
"If what you say is indeed true, then we must hurry. Faerina knows what may happen to your sister meantime, little one." Tori said gently.
Zuri smiled faintly, only just barely noticeably before she turned and bounded after the elder Vulnyx from the village and into the dark woods...

"I know what secrets you seek child" a dark figure said stepping towards her."but once you learn them, you'll forever pay the price....are you willing to?" it asked stepping into the light."Choose wisely" he said."I-I want to know" Zima said stepping towards him,"but first, your name" she demanded in the best tone she could. He purred delighted."you'll learn later, follow me."He slid back into the shadows only his runes glowing as a leading light."W-Wait!" Zima said running after it.She followed the lights until suddenly they dissipated."H-Hey!" she hollered waiting to be heard. She heard breathing, but not normal breathing.A hand went over her mouth and she yelped,"Shush child,it's just me...remember?" the voice said. She began to calm down."First i need you to promise, whatever you see stays silent." she nodded.A light began to glow...a orb of some sort providing it.As it grew brighter the hand slid off of her.Still breathing heavily she looked around.Only to see two humans.Or so they seemed. One had the tail of a ferrikki,a species apparently lost to the bloodlust of the Ny'vene's.The other seemed familiar,he had the runes and everything, except he was human."Child I am Shikia this is Falor." he said motioning to the other person. Zima slid back with a hiss in her throat,"But your humans" she replied."I-I know" he replied faltering,"just listen" he asked

Spill, spill, spill. My blood, my emotions, my love. It all spilled out in a torrent of passionate red.
Zuri...why?
Had Zuri always been like this? Or had I been the one at fault--the naive kit playing the part of the fool? From somewhere far away, far beyond my reach, a pale silhouette danced in my peripheral, glowing with an unearthly, ethereal aura. However, when my eyes flickered in an attempt to catch a glimpse of the shadow, it waned away, gradually and teasingly, like the evanescent shine of the moon. But the moon came back. The illusion did not.
The soft murmuring of a meretricious gentleness enveloped my stinging ears. It was nostalgic and comforting. It was the voice of which Zuri had stripped from the diabolic world. Zima.
My late sister was a saint. Her love for Zuri remained unwaveringly pure, up until her final moments. Zuri, who deluded Zima into sauntering into the woods, unarmed and unprotected. Zuri, who belied her malicious intent behind the facade of a helpless victim. Zuri, who ultimately devised the infallible plan to have Zima search for her, only to steal away her life.
Zuri had intricately designed her murder from the very beginning, knowing that I would undoubtedly follow Zima. And follow her, I did. Zima's once-angelic, white fur was stained crimson. Her eyes stared blankly into mine as I fell down across from her.
The graceful apparition was gone.
I was left alone in the black chasm of desolation.

Fyre was one of the oldest vulnyxes in Umbra Forest, known for her deep red eyes. After hearing what Zuri had to say, compassion took over her heart and she limped to where Zuri was shakily standing.
"Come with me, Zuri. I think I can help you."
"Oh, thank you, thank you, Elder Fyre. Thank you!"
Fyre simply nodded.
"I know someone who can help. Follow me." Fyre led her through a darker part of their forest home. Soon, as night was falling, they came upon a cave with a sliver of light slicing piercing the darkness. They walked in, and Fyre called out.
"Kide! It's me! We're here to speak of a mystery disappearance."
An old-looking lighira stepped out from a shadow, and said silkily, "Hello, Fyre. And..." she looked as if she was concentrating, "Zuri."
"How did you-" Zuri started, but Fyre silenced her.
"Kide can help us." She said quietly.
All Kide had to say to that was, "For a price."

The stranger, known as Fang, gruffly motions towards the door without a word as my pleading falls flat. Oh no. He doesn't believe me either. the thoughts spun around in my head like a fiery storm. I turned towards the door, my head low. But suddenly he was next to me.
"Let's go." He growled. "We can reach the place before dawn but we must be quick." I felt hopeful as we ran into the nearby forest.
....
A couple of hours later, we were at the site, a small clearing. It looked as if several fires had been recently lit and then extinguished in a hurry. There were red banners strewn all about the area covered in odd looking runes. My heart nearly leapt out of my chest when I saw the large spiked pit in the middle filled with bones and ash.
"Zuri." I cried as I ran over to the pit.
"No." Fang muttered as he gestured towards a fresh bloodied trail. Zuri?
....
Following the trail led to a small cave, and there was Zuri, alive, but with a big gash down her side.
"How did you...?" I breathed.
"There was a really loud wail that sounded all around us. All at once they froze, and then they fled into the forest, leaving me behind." Zuri shuddered.
Fang gave her healing ointment as we closed the wound with sticky sap.
"It's okay. You're safe now." I reassured.

It all started when we were off playing in the forest together, it was a stuffy afternoon and we were antsy. Everything felt so dull and we just wanted an adventure, to do something thrilling! What do you expect? We are young kits. We had devised a game to find and collect the brightest and most colorful leaves we could get our paws on, so we went chasing and pouncing on our dazzling prey. Neither of us noticed the slowly setting sun, nor the growing distance from home. All we cared about was our growing piles of leaves, as bright as the fading sun. Now I must say that, no matter what Zuri says, I had the bigger pile, but I suppose that doesn't matter now. Anyway, we were sprinting for those last few leaves when we heard a huge snap!

Zima had rushed back to the dens to think. She had paced nervously back and forth, trying to think of a way to save her sister and clear her name. Just then, a kitten burst out of a den squealing with fear. It ran to Zima, tears filled its eyes. It was her little sister, Lilly.
I had a big bad dweam! Zima was about to walk away because this of all things wasnt going to help her in any way. Its Zuri! I know where she is! this, interested her. Zima turned back to look at her. The blood cascade coven hads took her! She is beings held hostage near their hidden camp near the nightfall bandit camp! I saw it all in a dweam! Zima was thinking of her sister. This was coming from the mouth of a little kitten, but its all she had. She packed a few fairy mushrooms, and left her camp. But where is you going! Zima didnt look back. She trekked on through the thickest brush of umbra forest, until she reached the opening that led to fungus grove. Spores filled her lungs, but she fought and pushed on. She had reached an open field. As she walked on, she found an older, gray and gold vulnyx. They came nose no nose as it walked out of a bush. Even though they had different coloring, the way its face resembled her closely. Z-Zima? it stuttered as it spoke. Is that you?
W-who are you? Zima had no idea who this was, and how did they know her name?
"Find Zuri!" the other vulnyx disappeared into the brush.
But the other vulnyx was already gone.

The autumn light had been glowing gold against the leaves of the trees in the Umbra Forest. Zuri and I had been out all day, had wandered into the Enigmatic Grotto. It had been the kind of wonderful day when one could not help but explore, cool in the shade, warm in the sunlight, perfect for naps as we rested after play.
Going into the Grotto had not been my idea. Zuri had always been the more adventurous between us. The Grotto is known as a dangerous place, full of hiding holes for all matters of dangerous species. However, Zuri could not help but explore it.
But on this day, we found a place yet unexplored. I begged her to go home with me, that this new cave had an air about it that frightened me. But her curiosity was too great to be refused. As the sun came closer to the horizon, figures in red appeared, the gold light once so warm now seeming so cold and harsh. They did not acknowledge us at first, but soon spotted us, and began to chant. Their eyes were so cold, so unfamiliar, except for a lingering resemblance to tales of long ago.
I ran fast, ran home. It wasnt until I was back to Faerinas Shrine that I realized my sister was not behind me. It was not my fault I left her there, you see? Her disappearance is not my fault! I couldnt have stayed...
Its not my fault, right?
