And yes, I believe leaders can have kits (I think it was Mistystar who had kits) and even if they arent supposed to, a little code breaking drama is always fun.
I think Blue star was the one who had kits, and Mistystar was one of her kits. She had to lie about who the father was (he was in river clan) and give up the kids so she could become leader and save the clan from destruction. Read the super editions Bluestar's Prophecy and it will tell the rest of the story and reason.

Nightstand looked a little unsure of himself as he stepped up, as he wasnt there during the discussions of plans.
*Um, my name is Nightstar of Mountainclan* he introduced himself *My deputy is Tawnybrook, my medicine cat is Willowseed, my warriors are Violetpounce and puddletoe, and my apprentice is Yellowpaw* he finished introducin his clan.
*There was a fox that went from mountain clan territory into the moors, so Id advise caution to that* he said, turning back to the other leaders.

I dont think Bluestar was leader yet when she had her kits... well, i suppose it doesnt matter much, since these are new clans who can alter the rules and stuff

You're right. She wasn't leader yet. But I don't think it matters either. And anyway, clan drama never hurt anyone. Except Silverstream, but I'm not going into what bad stuff happened to her.

Also, yes, Bluestar was a warrior and became deputy shortly thereafter, giving up her kits in a race to become deputy before Thistleclaw. Leafstar of SkyClan had kits as leader with Billystorm and had her deputy take over, so yes, it can be done.
(In my fanfic, Mooneyes (who I am now) actually has Rainbird with the medicine cat Mothheart, who is the son of Dewstar, and she had her 3 kits as deputy)

Goldenstar was nowhere in sight, so youd have to be on your own for making this choice. This would be your first official act as leader.
"Hmm..." I frowned. I paced several slow circles around Teacup, studying everything about her, from the splotches on her calico fur to the way she stood to the confident glint in her eyes.
"Teacup," I said, choosing my words with care. "I'd be honored to have you join SunClan and help me rebuild the mighty clan who onced lived here."
I paused in front of her. My cool blue-grey eyes met her unwavering amber ones. Deep amber. Like the fresh sap oozing from a tree.
"By the powers given to me by StarClan, I give you the name of Amberdawn, after the rising light you bring to a new day in SunClan."
