So I would say pretty good," he offers. "We know the terrain and have led ambushes before. I'd reckon that is the sort of skillset you are looking for?"

Asteria nods once, "Yes but first we'll need more help. My friend Numbat has traps ready to be placed I'd reccomend we set up defensive perminters towards the west where you said they come from. Orcs aren't the brightest but we can't underestimate them. Would one of you please help Numbat set the traps and the other stays with me and we'll go into the woods towards where the orcs disappear to. Humor me when I say that I have an idea."

He snorts. "How'd I know you're going to get yer ransom?" he asks. "Ain't no prisoner got ransomed as quickly as this. Fishy. You could be tryin' to run, then ain't no money gonna save me from them high-chieftains when my head's on the chopping block."

(Hahaha, doomed before you'd even gotten started. If I could draw to save myself, I'd have that scene up on the front page of CK as an example of what not to do, lmao)

He trots from the room with one last look over his shoulder and a wave of his talons. As he passes over the floorboards, one of them creaks loudly. He doesn't pay it any mind.

In fact, that floorboard looks slightly off, like it isn't in line with the others...

Aegis follows you as requested into the western woodland. The land is sloped and you're steadily climbing all the way. You're surrounded by sparse, towering coniferous trees and the moonlight only provides the barest amounts of light.

"Never said you were the outcasts. Heard more then enough to know your jobs are probably one of hte most important ones. I, on the other hand, am the last person anyone wants in their society. No one's gonna come for my ransom, never have. You can ask the Adventurer's Crossroads, I'm not even quite welcome there." Nicote shrugs. " I've given him" he gestures at Spork "permission to do whatever he wants with me if I fail to get my brother dearest" he says iwth much sarcasm "into his hands. I'd do many things to see that spoiled brat fall from his almighty post."

Hopefully his wording means he won't end up being forced to lope his brother's head off somehow, that wouldn't be nice at all. He might not like his brother but he'd also like to not be disowned entirely and lose any hope of inheritance or freedom for "murdering your own kin".

On the other hand....he's not below throwing his sibling under the bus for a bit so he can escape orc territory.

I can tell you right now that most wouldnt do that unless they had morals and Numbat does. If you see anything out of the ordinary let me know while I look around. Look for good places to place traps as well in case an attack does happen.*

'Kinslayer' certainly isn't the kind of thing you want hanging over your head.

The chieftain looks like he's getting bored by the end, his attention span about as short as your average orc.

He gestures his warhammer to Spork. "And you, shortie? If no-one wants 'im, you ain't getting yer ransom money for 'im are ya?" He sets his clan jeering as he carries on "So what you gonna do to 'im? You 'aven't even got a toothpick for a weapon now!"

Spork pauses, looking at you, then cracks his knuckles and tries a bluff like you taught him. "Do what I did to last prisoner. What I did to last prisoner, I didn't need weapon."

The orc chieftain chuckles. "Easy, shortie! Alright, I'm 'appy to leave the elf as your problem if anyone asks." Then he looks Balthur and Knight over. "And these two? They weren't 'ere earlier."

He shakes his head and gets looking.

It's dark, so it's difficult to make anything out. But luckily orcs aren't the most subtle, and you notice snapped branches and twigs soon enough. The forest floor is disturbed, but that could just be a trick of the light.

"I can't say I blame you for that. Before I met Numbat I was the same way," Asteria goes over to Aegis speaking quietly, "Metal or coal. Havdur said he saw goblins mining something. We need to get back to camp and tell the others that way we can make a plan in case plan A fails. Do you think they could be after something different?"
