As always, we appreciate any and all feedback regarding Sylestia - even if it is negative.

That being said, I can say with confidence that we would not implement a way of keeping pets to the old models. The same issue was brought up when we redrew the Aurleons and we still have the same stance. There are many reasons why, such as that we want the Site in uniform art (both for quality reasons and just because it's our preference). Additionally, there are a lot of technical issues. What if we change traits around? What about adding new traits? What if I change the image builder code? It would all lead to complications and more work - neither of which we want to deal with just to keep artwork (that we felt needed to be reworked) on the Site.

Regarding future changes like this, we will try to make the playerbase more aware of the upcoming changes and give them respectable time to save any images if they so desire.

However, we will probably keep the design process the same. While, again, we greatly appreciate any and all feedback, as the owners of Sylestia it's our job to choose the direction of its content - this includes the artwork. Also, as the creators of the species, it's our job to design them as close as we can to what we envision them as. Now, both those being said, we obviously do so with trying to make as many of you (and future players) as happy as possible. Unfortunately, when thousands of opinions are made about something, especially something like artwork, pleasing just the majority of those opinions is a success. It is virtually impossible to ever please a thousand plus people one one piece of artwork. If we were to include everyone's opinions on the design process for a species, the species would never be completed lol. And when we change something to meet someone's demands, then we'll lose the positive opinion of someone else because they liked the original. Prime example: old Vulnyx to new Vulnyx. So doing so would just be a waste of our resources and a waste of our artists' time because in the end, a chunk of players still won't like the end result. With so much still needed to be done to Sylestia, it would really not be in the Site's best interest to spend additional weeks on future content releases.

Again though, despite that, any player who has been around for at least a few weeks knows how much time we spend with Sylestia on a daily basis. If we do release something that can or needs to be improved, we always do our best to improve it and do so as quickly as we possibly can. So if something were to ever horribly miss its mark, we would go back and make it right. You have our promise with that.

In regards to the topic at hand, we are very pleased with the Vulnyx. This redesign is exactly how we originally envisioned the species looking and its quality is as high as our newest species. We are aware of some issues with the wings, certain layering issues, and certain coloring issues. We will get them all fixed up and fine tuned most likely within the week.

Everyone needs to remember that it is impossible for one design to appeal to everyone, it is impossible to make everyone happy. Even if you were to make 4 designs and allow people to vote, there is no way that everyone would pick the same one and even if 60% of people liked one design and it was voted in the other 40% would be unhappy.

Alot of time, thought and resources has gone into this design and the outcome is a new beautiful and unique design that is up to scratch with the new pets. I can understand why people liked the old one and why they would be disappointed if their pets look different to how they liked. However the simple fact is this is a new design of higher quality with alot of love and effort put into it and I am a little disappointed that people aren't more support of improvements and aren't more open to the designs.

Different and change is scary but it is also necessary to build sylestia to be the best it can be. For every one person complaining about the design there could be three others that have had their interest re-sparked. In a week or a months time the design may grow on you and become one of your favourites! In the future there could be a house cat pet that is just what you wanted and if you continue to dislike the new design there is still a bunch of other pets to love!

TLDR version:
It's impossible to make everyone happy. Sylestia is in beta, change will happen and change is a good thing! Being more open to these changes and you might find that you like them!

I think in terms of coding involved with owning a "locked" pet of this kind, you can't have it all sadly and I think the best option for the site and the user wanting to keep their pet as is would be to have any "locked" pets unbreedable, unexplorable, unsellable-etc because you're basically paying to have the pet immortalized in that form. It'd be like owning a statue of your achievements.

Some may not want that but I think it's a reasonable sacrifice to keep a "perfect" pet. If you want to breed/explore/mission/sell etc then it only makes sense to allow the conversion to happen without regret. The site will be advancing either way and you would have the ability to choose either keep a trophy of the past or move on.

Thank you, Krin. Advance notice is exactly what is needed here; while I will continue to mourn that I irreversibly lost hundreds of my favourite pets to the new artwork (rip flame design, sob) and have no way of retrieving them all, even as just a screenshot, at least in future others will be able to save pictures and won't have to suffer the same heartbreak.

And the new art is spectacular, I really do love it. It's just the abrupt way it was suddenly forced on us with no warning caused some fairly extreme emotional turmoil.

I'm loving the new Vulnyx *grins* I can't wait to see what the Ryori will look like if they get changed *winks* The Vulnyx now look more like the Saber-tooth Tiger I think they are meant to be.
