I ALWAYS plan my characters first, and build the world around them. I find it so hard to pan out the world.
(Also, I just made a Wattpad for no reason lol)

I guess I'm a strange one, then lol. My worlds have people in them, but no characters, per se. And wattpad was a lot better a few years ago - they never had 'paid stories' or as many ads. :( reading should be free!

So Ive been working on a couple of my stories for about a year. Only have a couple chapters in. I make my characters first, so I can decide what theyre trying to accomplish and the message Im trying to put out there and shape my works accordingly. The first thing I do is jot down a character list. Then I start imagining the characters in various situations to solidify their personalities. Eventually Ill write myself short character profiles. If there are major plot points or secrets I need to keep in mind, I have an entire unpublished Wattpad book just for lore.
Im afraid I have no completed novel-length stories yet (or any, for that matter), but thank you for the update! Good luck with it.

Thank you! I tend to write down what characters in certain situations will do as well - helps create conflict. People tell me I'd be a good dungeon master for DnD, but I don't have a ton of friends to play with. x) It's fun to do lore and stuff, and good luck on your stories!

Question for y'all! How do you personally write fight scenes? I've always had a bit of trouble with them. I tend to write eloquently (think tolkien: talking about the colors of the ocean for two paragraphs lol) and have issues creating engaging, fast-paced fight scenes. Dx
(Hey Lark, would it be cool if we did a weekly writing question? To keep the thread more lively? xD)

I tend to focus on the actions and the effects of the actions. Not really sure how to describe it though. Like, "I punched him in the face, causing him to fall onto the sidewalk."
But my writing doesn't tend to have many fight scenes, so that might not be the best.

I usually write in third person, so I focus on each character's action in lots of detail.
