"let's get inside" i say, glancing up at the sky uneasily. i don't like being exposed like this, who knows who could be watching.

ignoring the girl in the tree, i head inside, happy to have a roof over my head. ruby looks up when i enter, but says nothing to acknowledge me. i stalk over to the furthest corner, sitting on one of the many wooden crates. why do they even have these? what's in them?

bored, i hop off the crate, working my fingers in the little gap between the lip of the crate and the top, pulling it open. inside the crate is a bunch of guns, knives and flash grenades haphazardly throne into the wooden box. and people are sitting on them. these people are crazy.

She stayed outside all day and night silently fiddling with her fingers before falling asleep

I glance up at Maple one last time and follow Dorcha inside.

"what's your power?" the maroon haired woman from before asks, coming up behind me to peer in the crate. "yours first" i stall, not wanting to explain that i don't know. "i manipulate shadows" she says, reaching in and grabbing a massive knife, which she slides in her belt. "your turn."

"it's complicated" i shrug. she reaches in for another knife, handing it to me. "then uncomplicate it." she tells me. i glance between her and the knife, grabbing it hesitantly. "i wish it were that simple" i sigh, shaking my head. "i'll help you. you and that girl you're with" she gestures to Cara.

"yes" the woman says "i'm alex" she extends her hand to me, and i shake it. "i'm dorcha" i respond. she gives me a smile, shaking my hand. she stoops down, grabbing a small backpack from the ground beside her. "follow me, i'll teach you about control" she says, walking outside.

shrugging i follow, keeping my eye on cara. i wonder what's in the backpack, but i don't ask. we've got a kind of tough guy vibe going on here and i don't want to ruin that. it's cool.
