Just curious: (forgive me if it was mentioned earlier) Is there a list of the species that get a revamp?
You don't want to change the newer ones, do you? (*looks at her Griffis and Ryoris with trepidation*)
I'm too lazy to go back and check, but I remember them saying the six starter species (which are the six at the top of the generator page). New species they said might get touch up to shading and stuff I think they said, but will otherwise remain the same.
The point is making the older species the same quality as the newer ones.

Holy moly, I leave for a couple of days and come back to this! What a lovely surprise! They're gorgeous. :D
I know people are upset about losing the house cat look that the original Vulnyx had. However, when we had the original artist design these...we did want her to go for a sabretooth type look (like they are now). Unfortunately that is just not how they came out....we did in their description and height/weight describe them as a bigger cat.
Because we did lose the house cat type look that some liked we will consider doing a small cat species later on.
That would be awesome :)

Insightful response, Krin. I love how the mods here are so much more involved and responsive than other sites~ At any rate, I think having a little time to prepare for revamp roll-outs will def help acclimate people. It might not fix the issues with breeding projects or certain favored pets but... at the least, it'll give them a chance to save the old images so they'll have that going for them, which'll be nice. I suppose it wouldn't be very feasible to have a voting system for art changes anyways, especially as the site gets bigger. Maybe with a smaller community, it'd be easy enough to craft a forum poll to maximize contentedness with proposed designs but... Sylestia is growing every day, isn't it? Trying to organize a larger group of people can be chaotic, to say the least.
I think one of the most important statements, though, was "Also, as the creators of the species, it's our job to design them as close as we can to what we envision them as."
I think sometimes people forget that the world of Sylestia and the pets that inhabit it... they're someone's creations. Creations we have been invited to expirience and play with at no cost (though cash-powered options are available, they aren't mandatory to enjoy the site). As someone who's constantly writing, roleplaying and worldbuilding, I can understand first-hand how attached you can get to your creations, even if you plan to share them with others en masse like pet sites do. Being able to represent them as close to your head-canon... It's satisfying, especially as you harness more skill to make your vision come to life. Not everyone will like it but...hey, that's life, right?
Still, the player base helps make a site what it is, so it's great that the mods are taking all angles of feedback seriously and responding in such a detailed and polite manner. I've seen similar situations go...in the other direction, to put it softly, and I'm glad this isn't the case. It's nice that we can have open discourse about what we like and don't like, that we can vent as needed without fearing recourse. It's a good thing and I think as long as people aren't super-rude about it, no one should be shamed for it.
Again, let me state I adore the revamp and though I am nervous re: the draeyl... I'm also super excited to see what's going down! The art quality for this redesign gives me a ton of hope that the future ones are going to rock out loud! :3

I highly doubt the Ryori will get a revamp, since they're pretty new pets. I'd image they might get some small shading updates or something, but their art is already up-to-par with the new pets, like Griffies and Aeridinies, so I doubt they'll change.
