I would like for the next pet to not be a land mammal though. Don't get me wrong I love them! Mammals are my faves but it would be nice to see some other kinds like a reptile (crocodile/turtle/snake) or amfibidian (frog/lizzard) fish (tropical fish/shark), insects (butterfly/lady bug), Spiders, nature (rock/tree/water/fire like creature) or if we do need new mammals, then mammals of the sea kind (dolphin/whale/Killer whale/seal).
Another idea for a bird might be something that looks a bit like a chocobo from Final Fantasy. Big birds who do not fly but run. But better looking then an ostridge. http://nerdtrek.com/history-chocobo/ Has a picture of a chocobo though you can also just google it.
But yeah, I don't really mind what kind of new pet we get because most look great. But I do think it would be fun to get a bit more diversity so a reptile/amfibidian/insect/spider/fish/sea mammal one would be great.
What I also would like to see is that one specie will have a cool looking girl and sweet looking boy. Most species have girls that look ready to snuggle while the guys all look ready for action. I would like one specie where this is reversed. Girl ready for action and guy ready to snuggle.

I second that I agree with most of what you said (and more so with ROCKS!! ). The Puffs were nice, but I would love to see some diversity
