Soltra's Character
Alabaster Kiryu Li Feng
Full Size
Age:
17
Race Name:
Kiyuva
Race Explanation:
A group of powerful shapeshifters that make their home in the freezing plains of Aesa. The Kiyuvas split their members up into different clan, based on each Kiyuva's skills and talents. Alabaster is a Kilvaltris - a warrior clan that specialises in covert operations due to their agility and stealth.
Kiyuvas generally possess sharp eyesight and keen hearing, along with an excellent sense of smell. Kilvaltris members especially are lean and lithe, and many of the clan bear a predatory and nocturnal nature. Unlike most of their race, these Kiyuvas have strong night vision, and are very agile and dexterous, as well as being alert and sharp. However, they are one of the more distant groups, and their members are usually isolationists.
The clans of the Kiyuvas are many, and in each clan, their members share common traits and abilities. It is due to this fact that makes it so hard to understand the race as a whole, as each member only sheds light on a mere fraction of what the race really is like. This, coupled by the rules the Kiyuvas' abide to, make them one of the most secretive races in Aesa, and very few truly know the Kiyuvas.
~A brief intro to Kiyuvas and Kilvaltris, and for more information, it would be best to ask Alabaster~
Planet of Origin:
Aesa
Racial Traits:
Kiyuvas generally spout black hair with white highlights, their clan's markings clear as day on their ghostly white skin. Long cat-like nails adorn their hands and feet, and their teeth are sharp like a wolf's. Most of the race are seen with blood red or bright yellow irises, making them seem all the more predatory.
A slight exception to their looks are when a Kiyuva is significantly angered, in which case their nails and teeth grow sharper, and their sclera and iris change colours. Often, its between pure black sclera and iris and red iris with black sclera. Their hair colors flip when they are angry as well, white replacing where black once was and vice versa.
Kiyuvas are shapeshifters, yet each Kiyuva only has three to five different forms. Alabaster's forms are a giant raven, a panther, a pure black griffin and his 'human' form (the picture above). Aside from their transformation, a Kiyuva is born with two to four special abilities, and Alabaster's example would be crystal manipulation, shadow manipulation and illusions.
Another thing about Kiyuvas; they don't mix well with other races and enjoy silence, yet they have a strong love for music, fauna and flora. However, when among friends and family, the Kiyuvas turn into a friendly and livelier race, and sounds of celebration can be heard well over a mile away.
Kiyuvas also generally have a long lifespan and a slow ageing process, and as of current, the oldest Kiyuva is 1986 human years old, making him 135 in Kiyuvan years.
~A brief explanation about the Kiyuvas' traits, for further information, discussion with Alabaster is required~
Power:
Unrestrained Shapeshifting
Personality:
Alabaster's a rather... aloof and solitary man, though he doesn't mind the company of fauna. While he may keep a calm and cool exterior, he's different on the inside - he's a young boy with many responsibilities, duties, fears and worries. While he is excellent at hiding this and pushing aside his feelings, he can't deny the stress and sadness he feels inside, and admits that he rarely feels what others call 'happiness'.
Looking back on the past, Alabaster can safely say he never had a normal childhood, as one would expect that a child would be studying and playing, making he best of his time as a kid. However, the Kilvaltris took him in early, when a member saw his performance in getting a kite that was stuck in a tree down swiftly and silently. As the Kilvaltris deal in very delicate operations, one wrong move may kill them all, and so Alabaster spent most of his time as a kid training.
As he's grown to learn over the ages, Kiyuvas must retain complete control over their emotions, lest their abilities go out of hand. It is the simple reason as to why Alabaster retains a calm composure in any situation - it helps him to think and to keep his abilities in check.
Due to his background and clan, Alabaster is very easily stressed - he is expected to be able to do near everything efficiently (It's why he has such a wide variety of skills, is fast at learning new things and why he can easily master whatever he sets his mind to, since his training included a huge set of skills.) However, he is still considered a young child by Kiyuvan standards, and with all the expectations he has to live up to, makes him one tense person who rarely has time for rest.
Despite being rather gloomy and bitter, Alabaster has a kind heart deep down. This may not show too often, as he's quite detached from others, and tries not to get himself involved with another's problems, lest they mean something to him. His nature is to do what benefits him and the mission, even if it means letting a comrade die.
Whilst Alabaster may be someone who nearly shows no care for anyone or anything thing, he has a softer side, and cares deeply for his friends and family (though he will let them die if need be) - if harm comes to them he's easier to anger. Alabaster's softer side is a more lighter and happier version of him, one's who's serene and joyful rather than his depressing emotionless self. He's extremely loyal in this sense, and enjoys music and has some rather smaller hobbies, things he enjoys to do when he has time.
However, he is still a Kiyuva, and of the Kilvaltris clan at that - he doesn't like saying much about himself, and this is where he'll stop. Perhaps with frequent interaction one might fully figured out who Alabaster really is.
Bio:
Alabaster's family was from a variety of clans, his mother a Scrytfin (a clan which deals in the musical arts) and his father a Yivalwi (a clan whose members were trained to be on the front lines of the battlefield, somewhat like knights, infantry or guards.). He has three younger siblings and two older ones, and inclusive to his family are his grandparents, aunts and uncles, each of which are in a different clan.
At a young age, the Kilvaltris clan recruited him into their ranks, and Alabaster's intense training started. By 12, he was already sent out on recon missions with other group members, the clan trying to restrict the killing the young boy would have to experience in his early years. It was only two years later that he was allowed on the more dangerous and bloody missions, and throughout the year he has already lost several comrades.
However, the Kiyuvas know of the loss of life and of sacrifices that must be made, and thus were taught from a young age to bear the pain, mourning silently. Rarely would one see a Kiyuva openly crying unless they were terribly hurt (emotionally wise) and even rarer one who completely gives up on life. Alabaster is the same (albeit maybe a lot more pessimistic, despondent and apathetic than most would like) and went through his comrades loss without much of a complaint. Heck, he wasn't even bothered by their deaths despite being close to them, since he knew it was the only way to complete the mission.
From his birth until now, he's lived a rather content life, if one excludes the years before he entered the Kilvaltris clan. While his family made him content with life, the other children did not (after all, children are children, some bullying is too be expected), due to Alabaster's difference from them. Their actions towards him hurt him, and his younger years were a lot rougher than his present. Too many troubles, too many fears back then.
That covers most of his childhood, since he feels he doesn't have much to talk about... or at least, he feels this is all that needs be said. As a secretive man, Alabaster rarely tells his background to anyone, and if one wishes to find out his history, they would need to ask him.
Other:
Singular - Kiyuva, Plural - Kiyuvas, Adjective - Kiyuvan
Alabaster prefers to be addressed by his last name, Kiryu, as opposed to either of his first names, as he finds this more respectful - one shouldn't use another's first name if they just met, but rather after getting to know the other very well. It's a little old fashioned, but it was how the region he lived in was like.
While an experienced shapeshifter, Alabaster is used to only his original four forms. This causes him to use those forms more often, as he is still currently experimenting with the new ability. Some problems he's accounted thus far include semi-shapshifting whilst unaware of it (parts of him change, maybe the eyes, hands or feet for example). For him, this is a dangerous thing, as one wrong emotion can jeopardise the safety of others around him.
His unrestrained shapeshifting is still retrained by what he sees. As long as he's seen the form before, be it fictional or fact, he can change into that form, and gain the abilities that belong to the form that he uses. Whilst he finds this a very useful skill to have, he realises the many dangers that can stem from it, and resorts to using a more powerful restraint than the one he used in childhood. (Kiyuvas when young have near no control over their abilities, and restrains are used to keep abilities in check)
Alabaster's in charge of two beasts, a silvery wolf and a shadowy panther, male and female. They act as his guardians and friends, having grown up around the Kiyuva since a young age. They go by the names of Gin and Illusion. As the years went by, Alabaster gained a new friend - a hawk by the name of Longfeng.
The Kilvaltris are a little keen on coming home alive - they do not mind abandoning the mission if it means their survival. However, there are rules to these, rules that everyone agreed on. For example, if a mission was to simply spy on the enemy or scout, or perhaps even just eliminate some little pests and the end result of them failing the mission is the loss of many lives, then they would die to complete it. After all, a couple lives lost was a fair trade of the survival of many. |
