(I hope this counts as a background story?) Samson and Alexa

(I'm not that good at writing) Some say it's the soul of a kelpari that died in a shipwreck while others say they are just hallucinations you see if you're abandoned on the shore of Pacificia. Once a year, a bizarre thing happens. There is a huge flood that lasts for 12 minutes exactly, and by the end, one sylesti is reported missing. They say the individual is swept out to the middle of the sea and comes across a small island called Pacificia. The sylesti has no way of getting out of there, since the island is shark territory. After a few hours, the sylesti starts to see things there. A Kelpari appears and beckons you towards the ocean. They look friendly, sandy coloured and blue. If you ignore it, it'll become more desperate, shaking their mane and lashing their tail, trying to get your attention. Eventually, the Kelpari will vanish into thin air, leaving you in confusion. How had this Kelpari suddenly disappeared? They reappear, repeating the same thing over and over everyday, until you finally give in and walk towards the ocean in their presence. When you walk into the water, you start to lose consciousness, and when you awake, your in a whole new world. Nobody knows if this is true or not though, since a sylesti has never came back. I'm don't want to explain the place but it's basically Sylesti paradise, everything one could wish for.

Tah'Rique, Lady of the Mire

Tah'Rique is the supreme leader of a group of Kelpari who reside in a swamp which was formerly a beautiful pristine lake. The lake was destroyed during a battle for the area between the Elves and Humans. Because of the overuse of magic and poison during the dispute, the area is tainted and only the most adaptable survive. This left the Kelpari in the lake with strange mutations which cause them to glow.

Tah'Rique was the first to be born this way and she was the strongest. Most other offspring would not survive to adulthood initially. The original Kelpari of the lake eventually passed from the damage to their home, leaving only the mutated offspring. Tah'Rique being the first and oldest knew she needed to lead her people if they had any chance to survive. Together with her closest friends as advisers, she rules with an iron fist, but not cruelly. If they are to survive the wasteland in which they live, they must have a firm leader.

Tah'Rique is not without a sense of humor, she loves to put on festivals for her subjects and always entertains them with a story or two. She also enjoys playing practical jokes on her friends, much to their chagrin.

Aquamarine
(I like fantasy and unrealistic stuff. If you do not like merfolk and stuff like that,
skip this backstory!)

Kelparis first started when the first ever MerQueen bred some enchanted seahorse and a sea dragon. She didn't think the offspring could reproduce. The beautiful kelparis now belongs to the merfolk and are the underwater equivalent of a qitari. They are treated as if they are gods themselves and are adored by all. But Aquamarine is different. She has power unlike the rest. Aquamarine is the fastest, strongest, and most beautiful kelpari. So what is her secret? Maybe it died with her breeder. Or maybe it lives on with Princess Anemone, the official owner of Aquamarine. We'll never know... Or will we?

Blue Moon!

The fisherman tell tales of a kelpari seen only at night; vibrant enough in colour to draw the eye despite the lack of light. Especially when the moon is high. It's considered good luck to see her, but she's a fickle soul, and never shows up when searched for. Some of the tales also tell that anyone who gets close enough to try and touch her will find their hand caught in the strands of a tangled mane, as they are suddenly dragged down into the depths, and never seen or heard from again. But that part probably isn't true.

Gretta, Shadow's Light

One would normally think of any creature blessed with a unicorn's horn is naturally an ally of good. And a Kelpari is naturally strong with water magic. And so it's always a shock when Gretta, a sorceress of the Depths, who was blessed with a unicorn's horn and a Kelpari, is seen using her shadow magic.

Her home Molakarthia was in the deep underwater trenches where it's inhabitants long ago accepted the use of shadow magic as not something inherently evil, but like any other element it could be used for the good of their village hidden so far from the sun. And yet few visitors ever came near for they were too frightened to see what corruption they'd find. At last when Gretta was born there was a great celebration. Seen as a sign that they were not evil, the inhabitants of Molakarthia felt they should no long be shunned by the outside world.

When Gretta came to be old enough, they decided she would be sent out to be an ambassador to the upper waters and the world beyond that only their ancestors had seen so very long ago. And so she left not knowing what she would find in the worlds above.

Reihdan

There was a splash, accompanied by a sickening sizzle. Vials of an acidic substance emptied into the pristine pond in which he swam. It intruded every space it could, devouring away at his cells, tearing apart the frail membranes of his fins. It bored its way through his nerves, sending shock-waves of pain through him. It obliterated his eyes, clouding them over in a veil of darkness. Squirming in the water, he cried out, breaking the surface and dragging his massive body onto shore. Everything twitched and stung, but it was subsiding.

Upon his surfacing, there was the sound of rushing footsteps, heavy and uneven. Whoever had done this had run away, like a sadistic coward. He breathed out heavily, trying to lift his wing-fins, but there was no movement. They were gone. The spinal fins lining his back and tail had barely managed to escape, left with a tattered and ripped membrane that hardly functioned. Lifting his face to gaze blindly at the sky, he wept, angry with the celestial beings for allowing this to happen.

The pitter-patter of light footsteps reached him. Had the one who did this come back to take him, or worse, kill him? He could hear the sound of two quadruped creatures, and by their quiet footsteps and scent, he could determine they were Vulnyx'. He swung his head in their direction and flinched back in shock as a gentle hand pressed against his nose. It was a girl, he could tell by the gentle tone of her touch and voice. She spoke to him with kind words and aided him in focusing his magic to create a pair of water wings, to replace those that had been stolen. She gave him a name, an identity. Reihdan. He has been with her ever since.

Harsia

The Pastel Prince, shapeshifter, too long lived for anyone's own good, and general mischief maker.

I think it's safe to say we've all made a 'mary-sue' OC at some point. You know, the one that has awesome powers, can't die or magically comes back, gets thrown into a DnD game and is introduced via falling out a window onto the other party members? The mage thats scared of fire and casts fireballs? The flirt that doesn't know what to do when someone responds and falls over? The one with amazing hair that somehow ends up always covered in mud anyway, but still looks great?
Yeah. Yeah, this one's mine. In lovely kelpari form.
Harsia first came to be when I was still a tiny child, around 12 years ago, and is still one of my favorite OC's to write or throw in random situations. Like turning him into a kelpari, maybe. But mostly he's been a fun character to write because I usually make him the comedic relief/tension breaker, but also because he's a very personal OC in the sense of being a very feminine guy that gets the short end of the stick a lot, and still cracks jokes at the end of the day.
(I hope that is what was meant by a backstory, I could always edit it to include an excerpt/bio from one of Harsia's adventures if that would be better)

Sunset

Born on one of Sylestias last sunsets, her name was inspired by that. Now, she was on a planet called Earth. Weird devices came to Sylestia, and exploded, shattering the planet. As she went out to hunt on this weird plane, she heard many people scream "Mermaid!!" and throw nets at her. She shuddered. One time she got caught, and if it weren't for her friend, she would have been far away from her h-. . . this wasn't a place she would like to call home. She would have been far away from her "shelter". She crunched the red animal's shell. Its "claw", if you could call it that, was very strong and hurt. Eating it, she splashed off into the ocean known as Mermaid Sea.
