@Site_Users,
We have released the 17th species of Sylestia: the Kelpari!
Kelparies were originally intended for the 2nd zone of Astryl's Vale, but due to the delay in the release of the zone we have decided to release the species on time.
Until the second zone is released, Kelparies can be found in the wild in a certain area of Sweet Blossom Orchard. Reading the description for the species should give you a hint as to where to look.
General Information
Kelparies are a rare and powerful species of Sylesti that share a distant ancestor with Qitaries. Their name derives from their typical behavior of camouflaging themselves with kelp and seaweed. When compared to a Qitari, a Kelpari has very noticeable differences. First, they are much larger than the Qitari. They stand higher up and weigh considerably more. However, the most striking physical difference is that instead of a mane full of hair, Kelparies have a flowing mane of pure water. While the physics behind its watery mane remain a mystery, it is certainly a sight that all Sylestians should see.
Due to their heavy reliance on water, Kelparies are seldom seen in areas without a constant source of water and a place for the Kelpari to swim. This typically narrows their habitats down to just lakes or deep ponds.
Behavior
Kelparies are very timid creatures and will typically retreat to their source of water if approached. Occasionally, an adventurer will stumble upon an equally curious Kelpari, but this situation is fairly rare. Due to their seclusive nature, not much is known about their breeding habits or societal norms. Although, some simply believe that Kelparies are underwater nomads and do not live in the same area for long.
Physical Features
Kelparies are most famous for their flowing mane of pure water. While magically enhanced, it is not known how exactly their mane forms or stays on their backs. Interestingly, if one were to touch a Kelpari's mane, they would be surprised to realize that not a single drop of water would accumulate on their hand. In addition to their mane, a Kelpari has very unique physical features. While their hind legs have hooves to help them travel on land, their front legs have webs and webbed feet to enhance their swimming ability. But most importantly for swimming, they have a powerful webbed tail that they use to propel themselves with while underwater.
Additionally, some Kelparies drape themselves in kelp to use as camouflage. Other Kelparies have been seen with intricate armor decorated in colorful pearls. Lastly, but often considered their most beautiful mutation, is that some Kelparies surround themselves with flowing water and glowing water lilies. While this mutation doesn't offer a physical purpose, it is incredibly mesmerizing and some think it is used to lure prey to the water's edge.
