Maybe they are trying to escape? The power could go out in a storm and they could use their powers to escape! Then they have to try to live a normal life out in the real world.

That is a great idea. And then after escaping they have to avoid the scientists and the next set of experiments which are trained to hunt the first set down. And they all live together in a big abandoned mansion but have diffrent jobs throughout the day.
