It begins on the 5th. Only points earned during the time frame will count.

Random question: some new genes were announced prior to the festival, and we can see some of those new genes in the themed pets list... When will they be added to the game?

Every species will be getting 2-3 new traits. They'll be restricted and available via some unknown new mechanic for The Lost Grove.

Krin had wanted to get them out before fest, but obviously that didn't happen. Hopefully it'll happen sometime shortly after fest ends.

I caught a spring blossom nyte just now and I was wondering what would happen to her when she gets revamped? Would I just lose the trait or would I get a disruptor to add it back? Just wanted to know what all would happen to her :'V

Most likely neither, assuming the rollout & specifics are similar to the way it was with the Lupora, the last species that was revamped. What happened with that was all the possible traits, with the exception of a few, were carried over (and moved to a different and/or additional slot in a few cases), and however many trait points a Lupora originally had pre-revamp, it still had, along with, in certain cases, an additional one.
