the shards of glass fall to the ground, shattering further, clinking to the ground like bells. I'm panting heavily, eyes flicking around the room wildly. even as i do so i feel the power rising again, spurred on by the sounds all around me. this one feels different, and when my mouth is forced open again, a different noise comes out. a low hum spills from my lips, and the lights begin to flicker, sparks showering from the ceiling as the hum grows louder and louder, consuming everything around it. the walls begin to shake, someone else's power taking hold of the very walls around us.


i snap my jaw shut and the humming stops, though the walls still shake. i need to get control. the next wave rises in me fast, and a short note pierces the air, bridging the others powers down with me, slowing us all into a stop for a few, blissful seconds, before everyone rages back at full force.

Viper stared at the girl in disbelief, wondering how she did that. Then Viper went back to thinking about what her power was, the only sign that's showed is the still increasing pain on the cut.

I move over to the girl but stop in pain, I double over and fur starts growing on me as I turn slowly into a wolf with fire burning at my paws. I howl in pain and fire lashes out at everyone as I bare my fangs in pain.

a bolt of fire lashes out at me, and before i can think, a sharp note shoots from my tongue, and the fire is blocked by an odd sort of translucent force field of swirling blues and purples. before i can process it, however, i feel the power within me dying down, has it really been ten minutes?

the dust settles, and everyone's powers begin to fade, water splashes tot he floor, the fire burns out, the humming in my bones recedes. as everyone calms down, the crowd parts to reveal a crumpled form in the center of the room, body twisted in unnatural angles, skin marred with cuts from the glass, and burns from the fire.

a murmur rises from the crowd, i can't make out much of it, but one word stands out to me. dead. that girl is dead.

Viper looked at the girl in horror. They turned their back to the body and whispered to themself silently.

I feel the fire disappear from my paws but I don't change back to a human. I freak out at that but soon scent a new smell, the smell of death. I pad over to the scent and spot the body with a growl.

A jolt hits me from the ouside air. A current of energy fizzles away, fading out of existence.
We've just had our first casualty.
My power surges again, and the currents in the room lash towards me. I let out a strangled yelp as the powers of the people nearby strike against my skin, burning me across the right side of my body. I crumple to my knees, holding my face in my hands. The pain is agonizing.

Angela enters the same door she exited from, eyes landing on the bottom. "lets get you to your rooms" she says, unable to tear her eyes from the body "someone will collect the body and tell her family" she adds, a haunted look in her eyes. looking up suddenly, she gestures for us to follow her.

i pull myself up with the help of the wall, taking a shaky step so i almost fall, managing to catch myself on the wall again. steadying myself i follow the crowd out the door after Angela.

"right now, i'm just going to take you to your rooms so you can rest, food will be brought to you in an hour, the beds are made. get some rest." she suggests, glancing over at us.

"you five" Angela says, pointing at me, the masked woman, a man with green hair, a woman with black hair, and someone behind me i haven't seen before i can't see "are in this room" he says, pointing to the first door in a long hallway of identical doors.

"there are five beds in each room, each one with a nightstand and lamp, it doesn't matter which you choose" she tells us, before turning to another clump of people.

i glance around at the people around me before hesitantly pushing the door open. the inside is a pleasant surprise; five beds in a row, each identical to each other and bolted to the floor. no windows. five nightstands with lamps bolted to the white surfaces. nothing that can fall, or be moved. i pick the bed furthest from the door, with one side pressed against the smooth wall.

i collapse onto the soft bed, burying my head in the covers. this is wrong. this is so, so wrong. i was supposed to be weak, something like truth telling or the ability to tell what people are feeling, not whatever that was! i have no idea what to do. i can't control this.

Viper was still whispering to themself while following the crowd.
