i'd say, top-side generic.


generic: these mer are the most common, they a simple, one color tail with a delicate looking tail fin fin similar to that of a betta fish's fin turned horizontally. despite the delicate look of these fins, however, they are not as fragile as they appear, and are in fact, quite strong for something so thin. they can be any color.


this is the description for the topside generic and it fits for the most part, we can just say the odd fins on his back aren't there

description: Tenebris is a gloomy and generally downtrodden mer with long whitish hair and dark blue scales. He's quite beautiful for a deep-sea mer, with deep blue scales and luminous blue markings, but for this fact he always looks as if he'd rather be somewhere else. His skin is a similar shade of ashy-dark-blue-grey, fading to lighter around his face, hands, and the base of his tail. His tail is similar to this in appearance

although somewhat more fishlike. When he becomes agitated, his markings and eyes will glow brighter.
