Curious, Atropos dug it out of the ground, wondering what it was. "I wonder what this is.." she said to nobody in particular.
Aris went next to Atropos to look at the wooden item she tripped on. "Whatcha find?" she asked, examining it.
edit, after the chest:
"Oooh." Iist wondered what was inside the chest. "Can we open it?"

"Dunno." Atropos looked for a way to open the chest. She tried to wedge her claws in a crack, trying to pry it open.
(This will be awkward if it just pops open lol)

there seemed to be a rusted lock keeping you from opening it, thankfully though it was brittle and broke off easily allowing you to open the chest.
Inside there was an assortment of things a couple of pillows and blankets as well as a homemade stuffed animal as big as Aris. there was also a large spool of twine and some bells and buttons, a well as a few small boxes filled with trinkets

"Whoa." Atropos could feel the nostalgia coming of in waves from the items. "Are these the remains of the previous peoples?" She looked at Aris for suggestions.

"Oh wow, look at these." Aris pawed through the various trinkets and items in the chest. "Possibly," she answered Atropos, "though it's kinda peculiar for the past islanders to keep their stuff buried in the middle of a jungle in a chest."
She blew off some of the dust as she went through. "Some of this would make sleeping much easier. Though most of this stuff looks like stuff for a child." Once she looked through everything, she backed away and looked at Atropos. "Do you think we should drag this back? How are we gonna get this stuff up the plateau?"

"We could put half of it in the basket, and I can carry the chest with the other half." Atropos suggested.

"We could put half of it in the basket, and I can carry the chest with the other half." Atropos suggested.
"Works for me." Aris put the heavier items in the basket, leaving the lighter things in the chest for Atropos. She was still amazed that a ryori could carry heavy things, but it definitely was a benefit for them. "Let's get the stuff back home fast, so we can still have more time in the day to keep exploring."

"Sure!" Atropos hefted the box onto her back and started back to the plateau.

Aris walked briskly back to the plateau and climbed up the rocks, helping Atropos if she needed it. Once they got to the plateau, Aris helped unload the chest into the crevice and emptied the basket into the chest. "Now we have sleeping supplies AND a convenient chest for storing stuff in. Neat!"
She took some time to stretch her limbs outside before putting the basket back on. "Hey, Twili!" she said, greeting Twili wherever she was on the plateau. "Now then, back to the grind?" she said to Atropos.
