So I am more than a little puzzled. Four out of six of his kids produced the visible calico trait, and one kid a carry of calico. So if he doesn't carry calico, and none of the moms had calico as a vis *or* a carry....how in the work did he produce so many calico babies????

It may be because of hidden genes. The mum of Vic for example has hidden calico underneath her vis. Hiddens can be found only after pets are tested. You can find it by pasting in the pet's image url and see if there are letters behind the vis, or easier, you can find it in the advance search by searching your pet. If that gene slot has a hidden, it'll be purple.
Carries would show: NB or NC. Meaning carried C trait or B trait of that slot. You can find what the letter means in the advanced search box where you can select specific genes. There are corresponding letters.
Vis with no hidden would be blue and shown: BB or AA or CC.
Hiddens are purple and shown: AB or CA. The letter behind is the hidden trait.
Sorry if i'm not good at explaining. There are lots of people who are better at explaining.
