How about a snake-dragon like pet, which common one would look like a snake/legless-wingless dragon and mutations would be like dragon wings and dragon legs (or both). And something sea dragon-snake related gene.
Also like the ferret-like pet idea.
And maybe something that would look like a cute fluff ball. TEEHEE.
EDIT: Also bunnies on two feet. =w=

I think a Pudu would be very cute. They are the smallest deer in the world!
Mother and baby. And the mother is only about as big as a Chihuahua. They also can have little stubby horns on their head. ^-^

I think something more deer-like than the horse-like Qitari would be nice. I'd also go for something like a Eastern-style dragon, or an owl. I know these have all been suggested already though, so now for a more original idea:
Maybe something that seems like some kind of elemental? I've seen a fire-based land as well as an ice-based one on the map, awaiting release. These would be good origin lands for such things. The mountain's cave system would be a suitable place for earth-elemental Sylestis as well. Elementals are something that's relatively unheard of among pet-sites with this level of interactivity, and I think it would help Sylestia stand out a bit more.
Alternatively, a Yeti-based Sylesti would be interesting to see-- again, from the Ice-Lands --and mountain goats or griffons would be a good choice to have in that huge mountain range on the west side of the map. Perhaps a Creature-of-the-Black-Lagoon inspired Sylesti living in the swamp, or something Nessie-like in that large mountain lake or somewhere in the river system? A jackal or vulture would fit the desert area quite well, along with the scorpion idea I've seen tossed around here.
Anyways, that's all I've got for now, except for a vague notion of something robotic. If I can come up with anything else, I'll post it here.

Here is an oddball request.
Nudibranch.
They are tropical coral dwelling sea slugs that are FAR cuter then something with the word slug in its name has any right to be. And there are so many variations that genetic mutations would be easy to figure out. And the colors!! They are so bright because they are poisonous.
A photobook of them curtsey of National Geographic, chillin and being cute. They are also only like 2 cm to 6cm long.
