I just realised you knocked down the iron door, so it's still fallen down, but there was a wavy pattern there instead as if the air'd become solid. You could see doors on the inside, wooden with brass twisty knobs.

I curse and run over, instead of running into it however I slash at it with my knives to see if they pass.

No one could reach you up here, but you couldn't see the pupils anymore. You then realise the school has an indoor place where students can eat and it was artifically warm and sunny there, lots of students were gathering and talking there instead of outside the school.
