He's believed to have once been human, and although he no longer remembers his true name, the people of France brought forth a new name for this strange entity that roams the stark nights; Peloquin, in remembrance of his once supple flesh shed for cold marble.
No one can pinpoint the exact time of his arrival, for his tale existed long before any proper means of transcription, but he is well known, whispers of his name reaching from one border to the next.
Some believe his existence to be nothing but mere myth, the missing boy turned to stone, yet it is a story that weighs heavily upon every household come Autumn.
Cold nights drag on, growing ever colder as his wings envelope the whole of France in shadows, his lithe limbs stretching wide as his hardened exterior comes to life once more to take flight.
He may be missing, but he never truly left, his eyes infinitely scanning as he searches and searches, wings sharp enough to cut through stone, limbs unnaturally elongated no longer containing the fat expected of typical human physique, and eyes keen enough to see ahead for miles as he snatches up anyone who so much as faintly resembles the one who made him this way. But his memory is clouded and his time to search short as the vague picture in his mind fades with each year.
One day, he will awake, and all humans will resemble that hazy memory. Let us pray he finds who he is looking for before that day arrives.
