Shadow spirits aren't a traditional fall theme, as such, but this season always reminds me of them. When I was a child, my older cousins would always tell the younger cousins a story about the shadow spirits any time we gad a family gathering around or on Halloween. Shadow spirits are...lingering memories of those who have died with strong regrets about something. They aren't ghosts; the spirits themselves have passed on. But their memories and regrets linger on in the world of the living.
Most of the time, they have no power over anything. They simply drift around, unseen by the living. But when the days grow short, and the shadows grow deep, they gain power. And sometimes, on Halloween, if some unsuspecting person or animal passes through a shadow spirit, or stays in one place long enough for one of the spirits to touch them, that shadow spirit can take control of their bodies.
Usually these spirits are benign. They simply want to resolve whatever regrets they have and move on. Once they do, the person regains control of themselves, and the time spent doing the shadow spirit's bidding feels like nothing more than a strange dream. But a few of them are stubborn, and want a chance to live again. Unless the person they take control of is strong enough to overpower them and banish them back to the shadows by midnight on Halloween, they are the ones who are cast out of their bodies, forced to become shadow spirits themselves.

Eep. How do you get he medium sized images? I dont really like the ones that are BAM in your face. It just annoys me when I'm trying to edit my post, adding more themed while the others just stare at me.... o-o
