Maxine was not expecting to be hugged or touched at all, and winced in pain from her many wounds being touched at the same time. Ignoring the pain she felt in her body and just hugged Defiance back, letting herself cry into the other womans shoulder while still attempting to keep herself somewhat together.. but it was hard.. She had fought alongside the crew she had come to and who had helped her get better and saw them slaughtered in front of her.. without even the sign of mercy being held for the. " It is my fault.. isn't it? It should of been me Defiance.. It should of been me.. " She said with a whimper in her voice.

Defiance jerked as if stung.
"Don't you dare say that, Maxine," she hissed. "Never. She died to save you, and she wouldn't want to know you're moping around and thinking you should be dead instead."
She lifted a hand to brush tears out of her eyes, but she was shaking so much she almost poked her eye out instead. Kneading her now-sore eyeball, she said, "We all loved Shadow, Max. You most of all.."
By then it was impossible to stay composed. Defiance didn't care if the remaining crew saw her - in fact, let them. Let them see their captain and quartermaster crying, let them know it was okay to cry, to mourn their fallen crewmates.
She began rubbing Maxine's back with slow, soothing circles. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. But it's not your fault. She was right. She made her choice to save you."
She shook her head. "I swear... we may be pirates, but even we have more honor than those filthy, cowardly men. Murderers.. We will bring justice down on them."
Defiance lifted her tear-streaked face to stare at Maxine.
"We are the sea.
Let's show them it's wrath."
Maxine quietly listened to her without speaking a work, the pain too much to bare.. she truly believed that her captain should of lived in her place as she would of given her life five times over for her. She hated herself because she was alive.. hated herself because she felt she failed Shadow.. She knew- or thought she knew- she failed the captain.
With a sighed she nodded softly to her words, calming herself down slowly as she tried to be okay again. It wasn't okay to cry and it wasn't okay to show weakness. Or at least to her it wasn't okay and it would never be okay.. it wasn't okay since she lost her child. To that she blamed her mother who cruelly cast her away while her father try to fix what already had been broken.
Maxine tried to make herself agree with the Quartermaster she considered her family but she couldn't bring herself to no matter how much she attempted to or how much she just tried to make it okay.. " I will get my revenge.. mark my words I will.. I just... " With a broken voice and a heavy heart she admitted softly, " I loved her.. I loved her in more ways then one.. "
( Lol- *puts chain and lock around Maxines heart* )

As Pigwidgeon saw her Captain and Quartermaster hugging behind the wheel and crying. God it made her feel like crying too. She just wanted to run up there and join in a group hug, with what family she had left. Ill never tease them, or anyone, about this. Ever. A new tear clearing her left cheek and she quickly whipped it away, sniffling softly. Your a Pirate! Be strong! Be strong for them... she walked a bit back to the bow of the ship, the wind rushing her dark russet hair in its messy dirty braid. She sat down cross legged near the foremast and gripped some rope to start braiding and repairing. Anything to do with her hands, to distract her.
