Spark, I think you are right about the Theme selection being rushed. I'm guessing Faiadon thought that would be better than having no new Themes at all.

Celuwen, I'm not sure about that "overseer" business. I mean, I totally see your point, but I also am not sure how to put the idea across to Faiadon without seeming like we're trying to tell them how to run their business. Then again, there are lots of people in the world who are more diplomatic than I am.

Here is a suggestion--tell me what you-all think of it. Perhaps, when there are "Design the next Themed" contests, there should be one thread for each species that needs a new Theme. At the top of each such thread, there could be images of all the existing Themes for that species, with the instruction to avoid submitting a design that is close to an existing Theme.

This would accomplish two things. One, no more of confused but well-meaning people posting designs for species that are NOT in need of a new Theme. As it stands now, Faiadon et al. have to scroll past useless designs every time--useless because they are for a species that isn't getting a new Theme this time around. If there isn't a thread for a particular species, then people will be smacked in the face with the realization that they shouldn't create a Theme for that species. Two, posting the existing Themes at the top of each thread will make it easier for people to avoid duplication. I admit that I have submitted designs for species that I don't know well, and (true confession time) I did not check to make sure I wasn't accidentally mimicking an existing Theme for that species.

That said--good post, Frawn. Did you ping Faiadon?

Also, having considered what Mohya found about the original Sugarplum design submission (if it was the winning selection), I feel like that design was NOT a duplication of the Smoothies. So my question is: Did someone choose the original design and then alter the colors to be more like the Smoothies (intentionally or otherwise)?

If that user's submission was different enough not to evoke the feeling of "Smoothie" in us, but was then changed, then maybe player submissions aren't the only issue.

In any case, I really hope my post to our Admins was concise, respectful, and a good representation of our group.
