These are absolutely gorgeous! Very happy with the final result. They look fantastic~ <3

Edit: So, after going and reading everyone's concerns, I will say this. I love them just how they are now. They are designed to be their own thing and that is what I love about them. They keep the original feel and yet are entirely new as well. I don't feel like they should be more birdlike, or that the feathers have any issues. They are their own creature and should stay that way, and changing them to be more like an actual animal would detract from that. I can understand that others want them to be more lifelike, but they are a fantasy creature, so I'm very happy with them just how they are. Like usual, I will be happy with any changes that may happen between now and when they are completely finished. I know this is Krin's vision and wouldn't want to personally change it in anyway.

Made some changes just based on what I've said and what others have said
On the male I redid the wings, smoothed him out as a whole, added leg fluff, changed up his beak just a tiny bit
On the female I changed up her chest and neck, but then got lazy to redo the wings and legs. same concept as the male though!

Here:

At this point though almost all my edits are stylistic. The only structural change was in the female neck/chest area and leg fluff. In other words, I'm just being nitpicky now :))

And scath, since you're the bird expert, what do you think?

Please don't take this personally, but I really do like the refined look of the feathers in the original post. You do great edits, but on the male, I think that might be too smooth. It might work better for a slight smoothing for the tail but on the wings, I think its too smooth.

I will have to say, someone said the tails looked like pinecones, and i cant unsee that atm, so I do like your version of the tail, but perhaps not as smooth? And your females nyte has a little bit too much of a chest. Otherwise shes perfect

I basically like the look of this revised version. I do think the length of the wing feathers are a little too long (should be a bit closer to the body) but I do like the more defined feathers. The tail that Dinnerbone touched up is an improvement in my opinion. I like the shape of the tail but the braided look down the center of the tail on the revised one just doesn't seem to fit but Dinnerbone drew the tail similar to the original but with a bit more definition.

They look amazing, though there are some things that could be improved. In what I think is descending order of importance:

*The wings on the female would cover most of her body markings.

*The female looks quite skinny and small because of the wing covering her body and thin back leg. Something about her back also seems a bit off, I think it might not be long enough?

*Their face feathers don't look connected to their necks.

*The layers of feathers on the wings are too defined with shading.

*The wings look like all the feathers line up on flat planes.

*The female's tail feathers are too small with far too many details on them. The colors on the tail look darker overall because of the amount of lines and shading there. It also makes the lighter colors especially look... not good. If you want a specific color, it shouldn't look like your color of choice plus black.

*No S-shaped neck on the female.

*The female's face looks friendly instead of fierce like the species description.

*The contrast between the extremely detailed feathers and the less detailed feathers is somewhat jarring.

*The claws look too long for them to be able to do anything properly. If they were standing in a real environment in the pictured poses, their claws would be digging rather deeply into the ground.

*The sort of long fur impression the lineart on the neck/chest gives doesn't match the texture implied by the shading that isn't on the "fur" tufts themselves.

*The shading on the female's eyebrow feathers doesn't follow the lineart too well at the end.

*I miss the larger feathers on the back legs that made them resemble a microraptor in the third sketches.

Dinnerbone's edits are great, though the feathers could be defined a little more with shading.

They look great! The only suggestion I'd have is that the female looks a bit stiff. I feel like a bit of a curve for her neck would make her look more alive.

Oh they look so much better! They may take the place for my favorite (Or MAYBE second favorite) pet in this game!
