My college friends used to get aggravated with me cause I could drink coffee, cola, tea, even take no-doz caffeine pills and still be fast asleep by 2 am. I never pulled an all-nighter because caffeine did zip for me.
My sister is the same way. She downs 2 espresso shots in the am before she leaves for work and then drinks coffee all day and all evening and sleeps like a baby all night. Caffeine never seemed to affect either of our parents, either. Come to think of it, my niece complained of it when she worked the night shift in the nursing home. So maybe it's inherited. It's not tolerance, it's just an absence of effect even after a long time of abstinence. I wonder whether there's genetic information on it. *Goes to do internet research on it*
Edited to add: I should have thought of this, but I found the answer. Some people's adenosine receptors aren't very good at binding caffeine to them to make it have an effect in the central nervous system, so they feel very little effect from caffeine. And, yes, it's inherited.
Some people do build up a tolerance to caffeine's effects if they ingest a lot of it regularly.
On the other hand, some people's adenosine receptors hold onto a lot of caffeine, so they feel more effects (jitters, heart palpitations, etc.) Or people who aren't used to much caffeine suddenly ingesting a large amount (like an espresso shot) can feel that way, too.
Liver enzymes also play a role. Certain medications can slow down elimination of caffeine because they use the same elimination route as caffeine does, so like your computer doing 2 tasks at once, the processes can be slowed down, meaning that caffeine or the medication or both stays in the body longer and has more effect.
TL;DR You can either inherit or develop a tolerance to caffeine, but if it gives you the jitters and your heart pounds, you probably shouldn't drink too much of it.

*more flailing around*
I am typing this from my last precal class of the decade. Yayyyyy!
And I am the lowest chair I have been in 6 years. This seating was very tragic. The first violins were crying, the violas were crying, the cellos were crying, and the seconds didn't care xD
How's everyone?
We get to watch the Pirates of the Caribbean in History.
Yeet. I can't concentrate right now, haha.

Disney World is in Orlando, FL. DisneyLand is in La-La-Land, California.
I was always first-chair first clarinet, but my junior year I had to sit in the second chair because a rich girl had to be in the first chair or her daddy would be mad. Small-town politics. I still played all the solos, so...
I saw Pirates of the Caribbean in the theaters (my stepdaughter worked at the theater and comped us tickets for a present). Don't know what it has to do with history, but whatever. I couldn't wait to get out of the place and get some fresh air. I've not watched any of the sequels. My sister swoons over Johnny Depp, but he's always given me the creeps for some reason. I'm just weird, I guess.
I've sent all the Christmas presents out to the family since I am under doctor's orders not to leave town while my anticoagulant level is out of whack and I'm at risk for bleeding. Ah, well, I'll see them after the first of the year when the roads are less crowded and gas and hotels are cheaper, anyway. And I can get a catsitter without paying hundreds of dollars. :)
