It's fiction, G/E-rated, sort of a mix of genres and sub-genres (some adventure, some dystopia, some whatever else people have said), I'm not sure if you'd think it's anything like those books you got there...

I can give a light summary of it so far if you'd like before you read something you hate

That would be Sora from Kingdom Hearts... there are, like, 15 of him in the series as a whole... like, LoZ timeline but instead of generations its cloning... um... Kingdom Hearts is basically Final Fantasy x Disney crossover with OCs. It's made by the Final Fantasy company, Square Enix, and Disney Interactive.

Okay, hear me out-
Don't let this be a turn-off for you, it's not intrusive on the storyline or anything, but it takes place in a video-game alternate reality world where the characters have several generations that are all... basically the same... and each character has a role to play based on the character they become.
However, every once in a while, there are characters who don't want to go with the way things are. These characters are called 'Rebels'. A group of rebels in close proximity (generation-wise) is called a 'Rebellion'. In the book, there had been only two rebellions: one in the long-past that had collapsed, and another that constitutes as a spoiler. Rebellions are bad because it's widely believed their universe will collapse if characters don't follow their intended path.
So there are new Rebels, and this book is basically their first adventure (before they really know what they are). As for the genre, it's got adventure, maaaaaayyyybeeeee it could constitute as dystopic? I've heard it both ways. Maybe both.
It's not a fanfiction, though I will say it was at one point... I now have roughly developed concepts for video games so I could write this because my cousin said I should ;-; I mean, the characters' personalities were basically completely changed anyway, so it seemed to make sense to open it up to a larger audience by making the change.
