Just popping in to share a very neat character questionnaire I found lol
Do you use character checklists often?
I usually like to skim them after I've developed a character a fair amount because aside from the more important questions they have that cover anything I might've missed, coming up with random useless tidbits for characters is really fun, haha. I don't know if I've ever sat down and completely filled one out for a character, but I would love to if I get the time :'D

Relatable lmao
Yeah ik what you mean about characters coming with traits xD
Like, I didn't mean it in a sense where it's like I intentionally try to develop them, it's more like "oh hmm I never thought about that, is my character a coffee addict-- YES well okay I guess I know that now" lmao
Plus it is nice to see the stuff they did end up with actually written out lol

I don't. While I feel questionnaires are nice to guide your thinking, specifically trying to fill one out might have the opposite effect and restrict your creativity and imagination. At most, the useful parts are really just things you should have already thought up when you made your character: name, age, greatest need vs greatest want, etc. Other stuff like "your character is stuck in an elevator with another person and the rescue crew says they can only take one person out while the other has to wait three more hours. What do they do?" is fun for a writing exercise but I definitely don't think you should be going out of your way to complete that.
I approach character creation very loosely - I have a concept and I create a person from it, but at that point they should be lively enough that further developing them becomes getting to know them and not giving them traits or hobbies, etc. It's kind of like how you said you see a character and think "they seem like a coffee addict. Whelp, guess they are!"

Nah, this is the first time I've heard of them. I do sometimes look through templates for worldbuilding, though, since I'm always paranoid about missing some aspect of my universe in my initial infodump xD

(Wondering if I should've phrased this better a;sldkfjadf, eh it doesn't matter haha)
I should've clarified that I kind of treat them either as I would an add-on to a character form (the archive kind, like Toyhouse, not the creation kind), more a way for me to organize stuff I already know (for the more important bits anyways), rather than, like, guiding them as I create them. Yeah, I don't think using one of those entirely for character creation with nothing to fill in the gaps would work very well. I don't even 'make' them that methodically, it's more like "AHA SO THIS PERSON EXISTS NOW, NICE"; I don't think most people do either.
Ah yes, getting to know them! That's probably the best way I would describe it. I'll be like, yeah, I know them as, like, a person (for lack of a better term), but of course I've never considered every possible scenario that they might ever be in and such, so it's more of an exercise in imagination/creativity, almost? Kind of the same way that roleplaying (or putting characters in AUs) works, maybe. I'm not intentionally giving myself a headache trying to decide what their favorite color is so much as, well, channeling them in a sense, because it's fun :D, not as though I'm forcing things that didn't already exist.
Anyways, yeah, if I were to sit down and complete one, it'd probably be with one of my favorite children, because, uh,,,, I have a burning passion to know if they are coffee addicts yk /hj
