I'd love to have a badge system as suggested by the others, like as a sort of goodie after doing tasks that can be added to the profile. c:
As for the ranks, I'm thinking to make it more hierarchical in the way that it would just be a linear tree (affiliates, recruits, mafia adepts/capos/soldiers (maybe at this point the rank title can be customized per user), then add a few more ranks on top of that to add development and encourage more activity aha).
Members don't necessarily have to name/title themselves by their function within the group, but can take on a variety of roles, whether its managing contests/pet releasing/fund raising/project making, etc. c:
I just have no idea how to do the badges...as I kinda stink with art myself LOL (anyone wanna volunteer to do the badges?)
I figure the badges can vary from:
-badges of achievements (from doing tasks, and doing several tasks anyways helps you move up the ranks)
-badges of purpose (i.e. project maker, pet liberator, region reconnaissance, etc)
/tries to ping both peeps who seem artsy and people interested in the whole ranking/badge system thing/
/also, sorry for not really adding more to the idea lately, I just am so taken with the Spring Festival ;w; /

edit: while I'm at it, I dug up the old Mafia Logo (the nixi with a fedora lol) that I commissioned another user to draw~ (credits to Dundee!)
I'm thinking to integrate it into the design of the signature that can be put in the About Me's. ^^ If I/anyone can think of another place/purpose to integrate the logo, any ideas would be accepted!

second edit: while I'm being lazy, I took a look at the suggestion box. Here are the things from the survey (I haven't thoroughly included anything mentioned in this thread, just the survey) that I like:
Background Mafia Story
Chidori mentioned to me awhile back that she wanted to do a comic on mafia members and a little background of it aha.
Organized HQ
I'd love to make a nicely structured HQ in the form of a thread or a separate website (wix anyone? lol).
Traditions
Just wanted to say that I agree that there should be no hazing. (I'm sorry that it kinda came across that way ;w;)
I absolutely believe in our group/organization acting as a role model for the community, both in personal ethic/morals and duty. (This means that I would want members acting as role models (not bad models or elitists or clique-ish) as a tradition. I guess it's just me wanting a certain level of professionalism in the guild, but I'm such a stiff lol.) One user suggested to "have the guild do things that impact the broader community", and I'd love to implement that if I can figure out how to do it in a fun way. c:
Otherwise, I like ideas like having a pet project split among others with set (mafia-themed or themes agreed on by members, or each member can decide for themselves how to set the colors) colors and traits, mafia customs, etc.
Other possible ideas include a "traveling pet", having a "code" between members or inside phrases/jokes, and the theft of left socks. :)
Guild Chat
For the most part, people agreed with Skype, and if they didn't have skype, they could access the chatroom lobby on Sylestia.
There is also an option of third party websites for personal chatrooms that we can utilize in the browser. I'll try to look for a safe one that can be used by everyone, since the chatroom lobby may take up players' chat space (I know that I'm in the General Chatroom as a pop-out, but in order to be in another chatroom, I'd have to exit the general one, so it may be easier to just find another browser-based chatroom).
(also, I will keep in mind that such a chat room should be moderated at all times. I don't want to be a stickler, but I don't want it to be a seedy place where vicious words and rumors are bred aha)
Nametags, Logo, Badges, Titles/Ranks
Totally will be a thing, been thinking about it since day 1. *thumbs up*
As far as titles go, I'm most likely going let the titles be a "free-for-all", but have several requirements/tasks to go through, to get to them, and several restrictions on what names should be in the titles.
For ranks, I can only think of 3 ranks (as mentioned far above):
1. Affiliates (un-recruited, show interest in joining, must be ___ days active, etc)
One or two tasks must be fulfilled to become a recruit. (Probably be active for x amount of days and release one pet?)
Affiliates can be affiliated with The Mafia and be in other groups (if there are other groups in Sylestia excluding ours) of their choosing. I am currently wondering whether to make our organization exclusive (must be in our group alone) or not; I think many players would prefer the latter option, though it defeats the purpose of having ranks or a guild in my opinion without a certain amount of exclusivity. ;w;
(doing tasks at this rank gets you a basic badge)
2. Recruits, who wish to be recruited into the mafia fully. (have filled the past one-two tasks, still be active, be actively learning how to play Sylestia, be user level 40 or so)
Several more tasks (probably 5 feasible tasks, like releasing more pets, demonstrate basic understanding of Sylestia, etc) must be fulfilled to become an adept. Probably have an initiation ceremony too...like wear the mafia colors for a week while being active aha.
(doing tasks at this rank gets you basic badges)
3a. Adept, who have pledged themselves to be Mafia members for sure (after initiation). They get a nametag, a graphic design signature to put in the profile, with their badges that they have accumulated thus far on it!
However, several more tasks must be fulfilled to create a title for yourself. There will be basic tasks (help players below you and equal to you, act like a good role model, utilize guild chat and guild HQ, etc) that can be fulfilled in general and purpose-specific tasks (creative people contribute art/concepts, breeders/designers contribute pets/designs, explorers contribute equipment advice/info, silly people can sell girl scout cookies to others, etc) that can aid in creating a new title.
3b. Titled Adept: after fulfilling a number of general tasks and certain purpose-specific tasks, members can request a title. While titled members are not higher than adepts, their title will replace the tag of "Adept" on their nametag. While they don't necessarily have to be related to your purpose ("The Artista" vs "The Cherry-flavored Fox"), they will be reviewed by me and another higher up (for the sake of standards) before granting the title to the member.
After that, I'm not really sure what next. Probably 4th rank would be Capo/Titled Capo, who will have more responsibility keeping the structure and integrity of the Mafia and its activities. Above that, I have only Chidori and Rose (who should be on hiatus for schoolwork, but volunteers her inventory/stable space if she has any) to help, so they'd be the Consigliere and I'd be the sort of Godfather/Don until further notice. >//< (for the sake of fairness and fun, I also want to go through the ranks so I can get an idea of what's achievable and what can be changed about the guild aha)
Responsibility within Ranks
It's suggested to "incorporate some kind of responsibility into the higher ranks" to keep members actively engaged with other members with different tasks. I love this idea. Players helping players is something I totally advocate (without the whole seniority thing though, like "I know more than you because I'm x rank higher than you").
I intend to integrate it with the use of tasks delegated to each rank (i.e. "Help guide affiliates to level 40", or "Help organize the pet-releasing scheme within the guild, promote with publicity", or "Help newbies outside the guild", stuff like that).
Mafia Events for the Community
Instead of having a number of organization-hosted contests, having few solid events seems to be a valid suggestion. The suggestions of "Seasonal/Holiday festivals...on a much smaller scale" or "our OWN holidays" sound awesome. :)
So in this case, it would be cool for members to come around and brainstorm an event that's open for the entire community (not just members) with a sort of lineup that keeps it going for a few days, with: "Small contests like we have this year, top three getting a special pet. Toned down, and more equal for all it's participants. Fun contests like Plant Wars, 2 teams all get something no matter the end results." (Direct quote from the survey because I can't imagine wording it another way aha)
That's it for now, it's like 6:35am and I should be busy later today ;w;. Lemme know what you guys think! |
