Fixed the Recruiting > Generate section. Thanks for bringing that to my attention! (:

Okay so I'm going for a 4vis.
Yes, I have the patience. But, I bought 2 enhanced essences and have the parents carrying the 4 genes.
Now, it'll take me a LONG time to get that ONE pet I want, I know. But that IS how I'm to do that right? xD Cause...I hated biology and sucked at it as well. And this post made /some/ sense to me, to where I think I did it right? xD

You're doing it right, although I would not recommend the method you chose. I would have either settled for 3vis or used more enhanced essences. The method you chose has a ~0.39% chance of success, which means you'll be breeding for two years on average, taking recovery time into account.

Not sure if I missed this, but if one parent shows a trait (say a lupora with lunar runes) and the other parent has nothing, will the lunar runes be a carried trait on the offspring?

Yes.

@Reynbowz,

I think this may have been asked, in one form or another. My question is to do with dominant and recessive gene. I'm not too sure how it all works, but by my testing the genes/mutations are alphabetized A, B, C, D etc. Is A always the dominant to every other gene? And by that would B always be dominant to C etc, C always dominant to D etc, so on and so-forth

Example: Ny'vene
Male has in Gene Two: Red Admiral Markings (hidden)
Female has in Gene Two: Cecropia Markings (Hidden)
Going by what I have learned Cecropia Markings = A, and Red Admiral Markings = B. when I test these two in the breeder the offspring comes up with Cecropia Markings, and when I put the image in a new tab (as I have come to understand is an ideal way to test what genetics the Sylesti has) I note that in gene two it has AB. I'm just wondering if it could ever be BA?

When you go into the preview generator, there are drop-down lists for traits. The trait at the top of a drop-down list is dominant to the one below it in the same drop-down list, which is dominant to the one below it, etc. The letters correspond to the position a trait has in its drop-down list, giving you an easy way of knowing what is dominant to what.

Whether an offspring ends up with AB or BA is irrelevant. The dominant trait will be the one that manifests visibly. If you want a B trait to be visible on an offspring, it has to have no A alleles carried in that slot. C alleles are fine because B > C.

@Reynbowz,

Ah thank you for that it really helped my understanding of things, I was not very good at science and this has really helped me out with breeding.

Um hi there! I have a question about the genetic mutators.
I just purchased one from the scale shop and used it on my captured, adult Lupora.
The only problem is...nothing happened.
Everything is the same, still says my Lupora only has the horns and everything else is none.
Do I need to get it genetically tested in order for the mutation to appear?
Or did I mess something up royally?
Thank you in advance for the help! ^^

@Xerixa,
Mutators can either place a vis or carried mutation on your pet. If you want I can test it for free for you, just put it up for 1g to my ID. 6776

@Reynbowz,
So then in order to get the same/similar color over and over again in a breeding project, would you have to get an essence for each tree? Like I see some of people's breeding projects and I see the same colors from gen 1 being carried all the way over to the gen with 6 vis.

@Taleenafuka,
It depends on how much time you'd like to spend breeding.
The way colour inheritance works is that in any given slot, the offspring will receive either the mother's colour, the father's colour, or something in between. If you're lucky, the wonky colour will not be passed down. So you could get away with using a parent with a wonky colour or two. However, this may require a lot more breeding attempts.
For optimal results, you'll want all of your starter parents to be generated with the same ( or very similar ) colours.

hey guys, I read through this but still a little unsure. Could someone take a look at this breeding plan and tell me if it is possible this way please?

Thank you

I know this way will take a while and will need to test the babies but is it possible like this?

Looks correct to me. Assuming 1 dot = carry, 2 dots = visible. And you're starting with 1 Enhanced and 3 Regulars.

Wonky colors are easy enough to fix, just nurture babies till you have 1000 scales, then go buy a pet dye potion from the scale shop. If I understand correctly, the new color will be inherited by subsequent offspring.

Here's a link to a spiffy FREE family tree site that's handy for keeping track of who's descended from who. And you can post a picture of your sylvesie on its entry, so you can see who's where on the tree. It's meant for humans (obviously!), but I also use it for another game I play too. I imagine there's people who might use it for dog pedigrees and stuff like that. If you click on "biographical", you can use "bio notes" to copy and paste results of a genetic test, so you can keep track of your pets' genetics. Just be aware that it doesn't keep the italic font for carried genes, so I use parenthesis for carries.
