what are frost essence? I'm confused

If I had to guess, it's what will help control the visible traits in the new critter-building thing we'll be doing for this fest. :D

Are there going to be any avi items in the shop this fest? I am just wondering no rush if you are still working on it I just want to know if I should save up tokens.
