I'm a long-devoted member of Sylestia. I've been here since 2013, three months after the site opened. I am a broke college student making minimum wage, and I have still spent hundreds of dollars over the years supporting this site. I have seen many, many fests. I've seen many disappointments and many great things over the years. I can honestly say, though, that without a doubt, this is shaping up to be the absolute worst fest I've ever experienced.

Nothing drops. Nothing drops. No water. No frost essences. Especially no additives. I've talked to many, many people, and most of us? We haven't found a single frosty jewel. Sure, they're in the fest shop - for an overrated price. These things used to go for 3k, and now the shop is charging the equivalent of 40k, and it's the only place we can get them. I plan to use a minimum of 32 frosty jewels this fest. That's approximately the worth of 1.3 million gold spent to get them all from the fest shop if that's the only place to get them. You definitely need to either make another place we can get them or lower the price in the fest shop, and everyone I've spoken to agrees with me on this.

Additionally, on the 'nothing drops' spiel, avatar items don't drop. And when they do? They're so rare, that they won't sell. I have a really nice legendary held I got on the first or second day, and it won't sell, because no one wants to buy them out of spite of not being able to find anything themselves - and I've seen members directly saying this. I get trying to make avatar items rarer, but the market is being obliterated in the process, and in turn, part of the economy. Avatar items nowadays are practically worthless because of it. The only way you're able to sell any is if you sell it far under its actual worth. That's not worth it, in my opinion.

As far as the snowman exchange goes, that was a beloved feature of this fest. I'm sure you've had your ear talked off about the snowman exchange (or an equivalent about it), so I won't go into details. Just pointing it out as something else making this fest the worst I've seen.

A lot of the themed, too, a lot of players are displeased with. There's a lot of ugly ones this fest and very few pretty ones. I'm a well-known Vulnyx collector. I've collected some pretty questioning-looking and borderline bad Vulnyx themes... But the Yuletide Vulnyxes? I wouldn't touch them with a twenty nine and a half foot pole. I've heard many others express their displeasure over some of the themes this fest, too.

It seems almost like you're trying to make the fests a big money grab, and it pains me to say that. Raising the prices of everything. Making it harder to get results from working. What set this site apart from every other site I've ever played (and I've played a lot) is that the administration actually cares about the userbase. But this fest - even as far back as the advent calendar, having to pay a not-insignificant amount of diamonds to get the stuff that were normal last year - and everything with it so far has seemed so much like a money grab to me. And that's not okay.

I've been playing this site for 6 3/4 years. The fests are the biggest, most wonderful things about this site. The biggest, most wonderful things you do. This fest has had a really rocky start, and I hope above all hope that you change a few things, because if this is how fests are going to be? If this, right now, is how you're trying to make all fests? I don't think I'm going to want to play this site anymore.

Just want to give my perspective on things.

I just joined this site, and I love it. I love the unique aspect of RPG while still collecting pets, and I love the art, especially of some of the pets.

I love the festivals, and how long they are, giving players plenty of time to complete goals.

However, I also like sites that allow players to complete those goals by the end of the festival/holiday/special time, without having to jump through hoops or spending real money on it.

I understand that the two biggest arguments are that sites need money to run and that the economy of festival items might suffer.

1. Sites need money: Yes they do, but I vastly prefer sites that tempt me into buying premium currency, such as the advent calendar did, rather than sites that force me to buy in order to fully enjoy special events. Sylestia hasn't done this so far, and I don't want to see it go that route.

2. The economy of festival items will suffer: I personally feel that if festival items (or themes in this case) will retire at some point in the future, and no longer be available, I would much rather their economy suffer, and they be plentiful so that most players have a chance to obtain them, rather than they be so rare that only 'dedicated' players who can afford to either spend real money or all their time on site can obtain them.

I have always been a proponent of 'no retirement, but figure out a different way to keep item value up', rather than trying to force value on items simply by retiring them. I don't mind goals that are hard to achieve, nor goals during special events that will take a while to finish. I just like feeling like I am working towards that goal during the festival.

While I am disappointed with the selection of themes this festival (I thought winter fest was going to be my favorite festival, because I love the themes and colors that tend to abound around this time of year. I expected lots of pretty blues, earthy tree themes, and glittery silver/gold/red/green themes, and was hoping for that), I also realize that taste is very subjective, so while I am very disappointed with the theme selection, others may love it.

I am also looking forward to having a way to bypass RNG in order to obtain the specific catalysts I want. I was very much looking forward to that, and if one of the issues was having a ton of 'snowman parts' in the inventory, then I would say perhaps create one item, not frost essences (which do seem incredibly rare this festival, even rarer than fall, and i thought THOSE were incredibly rare) that varying amounts can be turned into multiple parts of snowmen and then exchanged for specific essences.

One reason I am not fond of the Essence route is that it means (I assume) that I will need multiple specific tier essences in order to obtain the ones I want. I like three of the majestics this fest. If it weren't for the kindness of players, I wouldn't have been able to finish the fundle task last festival, because of the majestic catalysts. I don't expect to be able to get a lot of majestic catalysts this festival, and with no way to exchange, except turning in the salvaged essences, I don't expect to be able to obtain even one of each of the three majestics I want, let alone multiple that I truly want. Same thing for fableds. I would rather there be just one special currency or item that I can use to obtain any essence I want, just need to use more or less depending on the essence I would like to obtain.

I am not that into avvie items, though they are nice, so can't really talk about them, but I feel that the biggest issue is that avvie items are one use only. Once I obtain a copy of an item, any further copies are completely useless to me. I can try to sell them on the broker, but if everyone else is obtaining them (or as said above, no one else is obtaining them so they are either out of the range of people who want them or people are not buying them in protest, then I am basically stuck with those avvie items) Perhaps there could instead be a mechanic much like the essences, where you can take unwanted avvie items (of a particular festival, not just from retired boxes, though maybe they could be included) and exchange them for others. Each avvie item would be worth a certain amount of points, so that you could take a random rare drop that basically drops every time and obtain a legendary item. this would potentially give a boost to some avvie item prices (because even the rare drops that are fairly common could be useful beyond needing them in your wardrobe), and if balanced well, wouldn't necessarily hurt legendary prices a great deal (they might drop some, but not tank)

One final thing I would like to mention. I liked the thought of insta-pets and snowman exchange, not only for themselves, but because they were a unique feature to the winter festivals. I understand why insta-pet went away, even though I am not that fond of it, since I don't care about breeding max stats and rarely ever got the bonuses anyway. I like that the spring festival has the communal garden where, even if you didn't participate i that, you could still get the benefits from it, in wandering flower fairies and higher rates of encounters for certain species. That was a unique feature of spring festival.

Summer and Fall? To me, while the names were different and themes were different, they were interchangeable. Nothing was really unique about them in terms of mechanics or a special feature that really stood out. Haunted house was something I thought might be different, but it was basically a revamped version of the fishing/digging feature of summer fest, and we have a reskinned version (I assume) for winter fest, so it isn't unique.

I liked that each festival had their own unique mechanic that made them different from each other, so they don't seem to just be one long festival broken up by intervals of non-festival activities. Flight Rising has this problem. I love their set up of flight festivals, but they are all the same. Nothing is different exact items and names..

Basically, I love sylestia festivals, but am not sure I love the direction that they are going. I am willing to wait, especially because you are willing to work with the userbase on tweaking things. I just wanted to add my thoughts to the discussion.

I'm kind of relieved to see I'm not the only one displeased with the themed pets. While I am slightly bitter, I'm also trying to be understanding. The festival was late after all, and I would venture to guess that whoever was picking out the themeds did it in haste. It's not an excuse, of course, but it is an acceptable reason.

If a good chuck of players are indeed displeased with the themeds, I suggest repicking at least some of them. I don't think that'd do any harm? The players whose designs you scrap might not be happy, but you can always compensate them.

As a new player, I naturally don't really have complaints about any other winter festival elements. I guess maybe wild themed pets seem to be more rare than they were during the autumn festival. That could just be my luck, though.

Edit: Oops, I meant to remove that ping. I seem to be unable to do so now. Sorry!

I think it is too late to repick the themes, especially because many or most of them have already been caught/started brewing them.

However, it might be possible, especially if there is going to be a new feature/revamp, to add new themes in that way.

I am, however, of the opinion that, for those of use who don't particularly like the themes (and again, just want to say no salt to the creators, just most of them are not to my tastes), it is too late, and we just have to work with what the ones we like.

Please stop messing with RNG even more. Do not just include the catalysts to WW! Its bad enough with the luck ive had in there as it is. I Really Do Not Want Yet Another Place To Fight RNG again!

ok.. but the fest shop seems too overpriced. right now the loot rates+overpriced fest shop are not gonna work. if someone finds a jewel in ww and pits it on the broker, it may be as much as 20k, but it still seems cheaper then 100 tokens. so what are we gonna do? wait around for someone to find one and buy from broker instead. im curious how many ppl buy brew mats from the fest shop, since i have never used it.

for spring/summer fest i hoarded tokens bc i had nothing to do with them. i dont like av items, i didnt make that many pets. this time i actually have something to use tokens on, like sw things and ww. so it makes me not want to buy jewels.

Breed loads and nuture offspring, the amounts per nuture are low but they add up really fast. Go to the winter festival zone and fight your pets, there are token drops for winning fights and in treasure chests. They're not going to just give you the goods, honey. You do have to work for it. Also, tending other people's sculptures will net you three to five tokens per pallet.

the only task that will give me frostjewels is the grow a fable cata one.
1. it can take up to 12 days to grow one fable cata. i want it for a reg sculpt i already started, which wud finish before i get the jewels.
2. if my vorpa hatches w/ the wrong gene, i have no way to get more jewels unless i wanna blow tokens in the overpriced fest shop. i need my tokens to buy ww runs, since i want things from ww.

im lucky someone was able to find some and sent them to me, but if i need more jewels its gonna be tough.

Well, there was a reason I threw a C Note at them for this fest. I don't usually bother, but it's the Christmas one so I did.
