Scathreoites has alot more information, If mine confusses you please check his out :D,I am just trying to make a quick small one that covers most questions i am asked. c:
Restricted traits are the exclusive traits you can get from exclusive pets, usally these exclusives only pop up once a year. In the generator you can tell what are restricted traits by the red color.
Heres an example (click for a bigger version).

Majority of restricted traits come in a package of four traits, you can either get 1 carried, 2 carried, 1 visible, or 2 visible out of the four available, but some exclusive have 6 traits.
Heres a 2carried,1vis and 2vis exclusive.

When breeding these exclusives people aim to get all traits vis on a breedable pair, a offspring with all the traits could cost 25-500k depending on the seller or the stats (usally 200k). :D though alot of PBs are sold for 1-100k depending on the traits.
Heres two examples of a finished pet with all four of that taggeds traits:

(These are the Ethereal traits, there are two diffrent tagged names for this package, Ethereal Vulnyx, and Spring Druid Vulnyx, but they both still share the same traits).

Some people though will breed a non restricted trait pet with one, just to get the traits, at first the traits will be a hidden;

As you can see HH (Cute Witch Fire) is hidden making it BH (B being Fallow Deer) but breeding BH with a HH will give you the trait, the process is long but soon youll end up with all the traits;

The only problem with that is it may get some ugly colors, and wont be PB, PBs have the little blue tag right above the traits, like this one:

If you have any questions ping me on this thread! :D

Another way to get restricted traits is by buying Philters in the Diamond Shop, these only pop up in events
These all cost 500 dias no matter the trait;

These may be used on any pet, besides the Lucky Dust, and Valentine Lace, those can only be used on caught pets, the only thing that may stop you from using the philters is if, the pet already has a restricted trait in that slot, a disrupter from a set that was already used on this pet, or if the pet does not have a visable trait in the slot your trying to use...Theres more info here on the philters, I apoligize if anything is wrong I dont use philters that much. ^^;

You then use the Philter (this one is the Spring Arcanist's one).

(These are two diffrent pets I dont have the philter to give an example xD)
