So, once you breed a Sylesti do you have to do a genetic test to see if they are carrying any genes/mutations? Or is the NN you see across the board true and your sylesti does not have any carried traits?

I ask because I have an Aurleon named Noelle that is the offspring of a parent that has the mutation Ice Crystals (EE). From what I know about genetics, Noelle should have received one of those E's making her a carrier, right? But I see NN in Noelle's genetics for Mutation 1. Do sylestis not always pass on their traits, despite both alleles being the same? or am I not seeing that the trait is carried because I haven't done a genetic test or bred her with another to see if she is a carrier?

Visible traits are the only ones that appear in the genetic unless your pet is tested. If one of her parents had a visible trait then more then likely she will carry it, however in some casses it may not quite be the case recessive may be a thing on untested pets with visible traits. ^-^

Breeding her is not a garenteed way to see her traits neather as it is rng base while also depending of the male's traits or lack there of.

If I bred her and the offspring had the visible trait, would her genetics page then show that she is a carrier?
I understand that even if she has 20 offspring that all did not show the trait that it doesn't verify anything, because it could just be terrible luck with rng. However just one offspring showing the trait should verify definitely.

Thank you for your quick response btw :)

If the male dosnt have a trait in that slot there is 0% chance that said trait will become visible. I check the lineage and luckly both parents are tested so we can rule out rescessive traits for this perticular case, she most likely have 3 carries tho bad rng may have given you 2 instead.

All traits dont have the same chance to be passed down depending of their letter, if the father have a trait that have a letter coming before the one you want you have lower odds of getting your wanted trait (the reverse is true as well). If the offspring end up with a visible from parents with diferents traits it will most likely have a hiden (or recessive) carried of the other trait beneth it's visible, when those remain untested then your lineage can start becoming odd and no longer making sense.

Is there any way to get a genetic test? the only thing I know of is the one in the diamond shop, and I refuse to spend real money on that. Are they in the markets that are unlocked further in the storyline?

right now it's the best way to get genetic test kits, it may seem hard but dont forget that you can trade your gold for diamonds on the curency exchange so saving up and waiting for a festival for the price to drop is totaly doable. Otherwhise there are thread for free testing, so far i never heard of someone steeling a pet on there and since everything is writen you can alwais report if an issue happen (still, give a few days in case it's a case of internet deciding to stop for the tester). ^-^

as mentioned, currently the only way to get a gene test kit is the infinite one at the diamond shop. You can use the currency exchange to buy diamonds using gold rather than real money, and wait until fest when we'll get a diamond sale.

Other than that, we'll likely get some one-use gene test kits + genetic scanners during advent calendar.
It used to be that we could get them as a 'consolation prize' from the fest Wheels, but those were retired.

Most people who need pets tested but can't currently get the infinite kit use the free services offered by other players here who DO have the infinite test kit

Sylesti genetics function on Punnett Square genetics- we have some stuff on it here, but basically, yeah, you cannot see carried or hidden traits in the genetics unless a pet has been tested.

Looking at both her parents, who also as mentioned by Cian are both tested, making it infinitely easier, her genetics are:
G1: (NN) None
G2: (NN) None
G3: (NN) None
M1: (NE) carried Ice Crystals
M2: either (NN) Nothing or (NF) carried Streamers (since she obviously doesn't have (FF) vis streamers)
M3: (NH) carried Ice Helmet

(though you cheat the system and find out Sneaky Like using a male that has a visible trait in the same slot against her in the test breed generator- roll it a bunch of times, and if some of the generated outcomes throw vis m2, then she has the carry)
