Wingless Characters:Tabitha, KaliOfDarknesss
Tabitha didn't always have wings.
Her sisters were born with them, but she had missed out on the gene. For a long time, Tabitha was envious, watching her sisters and mother gallop about in the fields, then spread their wings and fly into the morning sky. The young mare wished that she, too, could fly through the clouds, and feel the sun's unbridled warmth on her back. Some days, she would stand and flex her imaginary wing muscles, staring up at the sky with such conviction many feared she would go blind.
And then, one day, her sisters were no longer a part of her life. They were replaced by a human, a strange, gangly thing with long red hair and narrow eyes. Contrary to popular belief, Tabitha chose her human, not the other way around. She went willingly and with dignity, following her into the great unknown of the world. In doing so, she had found her very first friend, and a new purpose.
Tabitha became a warrior. It was an odd job for a creature of her type, but one she accepted nonetheless. And fight she did; hundreds of battles she won, proving herself as more than a match for the strongest predators of the wilds. But still, there was something she longed for, something she wished she could put into words for the human: wings. Certainly she had surpassed her sisters in skill, but that wasn't all she wanted. She longed for so much more.
It happened one night in summer. As she slept in the stables, she heard the human approach. In her hand she held a bottle of some sort, and with her free hand she calmed the mare, stroking her neck as she spread the liquid in the bottle over Tabitha's coat. Almost immediately, it sizzled and vanished, leaving something heavy in its place.
When Tabitha looked back again, a pair of green feathered wings lay folded across her back, and for the first time in her life, she gave loud whinnies and cries of joy, jumping about the stables. The next morning, the human took her out to test her wings. This was the moment she'd been waiting for.
Without hesitation, Tabitha leaped from the dry, flat ground into the cool morning air, and into a new world where the sun seemed to shine just a bit brighter than before.

Deus: The Modern Narcissus Characters:Deus, Kerowyn, FForFox
Deus was born with beauty, something which was a rarity among the Zolnixi tribe he was born into. The majority of them were rather plain, usually with clashing colors which did not match, and few truly lovely distinguishing marks. None of them were like Deus, born black and white with bright red eyes. His parents thought he was perfect, his siblings envied him, and the tribe looked upon him with awe.
The stares only increased as he matured, growing beautiful feathered wings and glowing pearl armor when he became an adolescent. As he came of breeding age, he had no shortage of mates, but was careful with who he had children with. He wanted them to be as beautiful as he, and wouldn't make a mate of any old female. He was forced to travel far and wide, looking for fresh blood, as his tribe seemed to be cursed with both relatives and ugliness.
On one particular trip, it seemed as though his beauty would end him; he was spotted by a human, a hunter, looking to gather beautiful furs for him to tan and sell. Deus was an obvious choice, and since he knew little in fighting techniques, he could not escape the hunter's snare. He was saved by the grace of the gods, he'd later say; a human female came running out of the woods, yelling and spitting at the hunter who had trapped him. Thanks to the distraction, he managed to escape...but not for long.
Walking alongside the edge of a stream, Deus became enchanted by his own image. This was something which happened to him often; any and all reflective surfaces became Deus's mirrors, tools for him to stare at himself in and admire his own beauty. Unfortunately for him, this river's banks were unstable, and one loose rock sent him careening over the edge. His head hit a stone, and everything went dark.
When he woke, Deus was sure that he had died. A beautiful female Zolnixi sat with his head between her front legs, and she was grooming him slowly with her tongue, rasping over his ears. She seemed to notice his awakening, and she smiled down at him.
She introduced herself as Kerowyn, and Deus was immediately drawn to her. His tail curling with delight, he said, "My dear, what must I do to make you my mate?" She giggled, as if he'd told a joke, and replied,
"Not much, though I doubt you'll like it. Come home with me to my human, and we shall be mated."
Come home with her he did, and when they arrived, he realized that the human she had taken him to was the same one who had rescued him earlier that evening. It was a small price to pay, he assumed, for a mate who was as beautiful as he.
Naturally, Deus's charming ways didn't stop with Kerowyn, and he quickly managed to attract and enchant the rest of the Zolnixi in his new human's stables. There were many pups running about in the stables with pearl armor not long after he arrived; however, it seemed that many never did trace that influence back to him.
Nevertheless, this was Deus's legacy, one that would be remembered for many, many generations.
