For strength, intelligence, dexterity, and agility, the stat takes the form of A (B + C), where A is the total stat, including bonuses from proficiencies, levels, and items, and then B + C is the base stat. I don't quite understand B and C, though. What's the difference between them?

B represents the pets base stats and C represents wild base stats. (Wild stats pass on from parent to offspring but they decrease with each generation. C was added to help surpass B - which has a cap referred to max stat: HP:2000/MP:200/Other stats:100)

So only tamed wild pets (and their offspring to a lesser extent) have C?

C is grove stats./wild stat/bonus stat; they're only found on pets caught in the Lost Grove, and can be passed down via breeding, though the stats degrade over generations.
How high the wild stats are on an lg pet depends on the pet rarity and how it was obtained
A common rarity grove pet has no wild stat, so are +0
Uncommon Wild Grove pets have +1-+6 (this is just for the base four- hp and mana have their own ranges but I never bothered working those out) how much each stat has is random per pet, so one wild uncommon aur may have +2 Str while another might have +6. it isn't tied to species, just each pet- the two pets linked are an example.
Rare (these are the ranges I've *seen* the stats within
Unthemed have +8-+11
Themed have +12-+17
Epic
Unthemed, +20-+30
Themed, +30-+45
Legendary and Mythical
Unthemed in both rarities, +30-+45
Themed, +50-+75 (I have no legendary or mythical themed lg pets, so we're going to have to use someone else's for this example)
Unthemed egglings have the same range as a Rare (regardless of rarity)
Themed eggs have the same range as an unthemed epic, also regardless of rarity
Temple eggs (from the third section of the LG) are always Themed and have Themed Leg/Myth tier stats
example of stats over generations- if only one parent has an lg stat and the other is +0, it will only subtract from the one grove stat. If both parents have lg stats, it'll pick a number randomly between them (like for the regular base stats) and THEN subtract
leg. LG pet
children; 1, 2
grandchild (child of 2 and another pet with lg stats)
great-grandchild
great-great grandchild

Only certain tamed wild pets from The Lost Grove. Usually the wild stats are based on the rarity of the pet (uncommon/rare/epic/legendary/etc.) Themed captured (snared) usually have more stats then the basic rarity which is why themed Grove legendaries are sought after.
Common = 0 wild stats
Uncommon = super low wild stats
Rare = low wild stats
Epic = about mid range for wild stats
Legendary = high wild stats
Legendary Themed = The best wild stats (?)
Edit: Scath beat me to it! xD
