Hey, so, I've gotten into breeding a lot more recently. Problem is, I'm not really sure if there's any gene dominance system in place. I've run into this problem a couple of times, where I'll breed two Sylesti and am pretty sure they'll wind up with one gene, but they end up with another.

For example, a hatchling Vulnyx of mine. His dad's Gene Three slot has vis "CC Galaxy Stripes" and his mom has carried "NC Galaxy Stripes," but the hatchling has nothing. Am I severely misunderstanding something?

There is gene dominance. From most dominant to least, A-Z. (Excluding N)
As for your Vul, has it been tested? Because carries & hiddens don't show if it's not tested.
So it should be should be carried if it's not visible.
Traits work the same as punnet squares, so it's a 50% chance that your Vul will have vis Galaxy Stripes & 50% for it to be carried.

Is this the pet you're talking about?

When it comes to breeding a pet with a visible trait to a pet with a carried trait, the trait has a 50% chance of being either visible or carried on the offspring. This guy, like his mom, carries the Galaxy Stripe trait. He just isn't genetically tested so the trait doesn't show on his genetics screen. In order for you to see carried traits, you have to get them tested. There are plenty of users who will test your pets for free under the Groups, Guilds, Clubs, and Services Forum.

The genetics system in Sylestia works similar to the way Punnet Squares do in biology. If you know how punnet squares work, you've got the genetics figured out.

Gosh, that makes way more sense lol. There goes the mystery of my Vulnyx- probably just got unlucky and it's carried. Thank you!
