Been a while, is there any way to unlock my old threads? Was hoping to update my designs thread but alas, Ive been gone a year and it is locked, lol. I vaguely remember people used to say you could message Krin a request to unlock threads, but wanted to double-check before I bother him!

Yup, you're right: to unlock an old thread just send Krin a message with a link to the thread(s) you want unlocked and he'll get them unlocked for you ^.^
