I've got these two sylesties, very cute, very good, named Duke and Duchess. Both of them are wild caught and both have vis jeweled wings (DD) in their M1 slot. So, logically, their offspring would have vis jeweled wings in THEIR M1 slot, yes?
So how come their daughter has armored wings outta nowhere?
I understand the hidden, carried genes, concept. How they can have hidden markings or mutations under the visible ones that may come out when breeding for offspring. But won't it tell you if they have a hidden gene under there? Like instead of DD it would be DE? Or does that only show up after you've used a genetics kit on them? Does one of my cats have some hidden genes goin on, or does momcat have some explaining to do?

Duke and Duchess haven't been genetically tested yet, so you can't see the hidden trait that they might carry. There are multiple players who do free genetic testing in this thread. If you'd like I can also test them for you. ;)
And~ for giggles as an example, I also have a Duke and Duchess~ :) They've both been genetically tested (looks like a little lab set under the icons).
Edit: Since Armored Wings is visible on the offspring they BOTH have hidden carries under those visible Jeweled Wings.

Oh wow! What are even the odds of them both having hidden carried in the same slot? Ha! This is going to make breeding, uh. Interesting! Thanks!
Also? I absolutely love Duke's widdle nubbin tail. So cute.

to see both Carried and Hidden traits (which are Carried traits too, just under a vis rather than nothing) in p pet's genetics section the pet needs to be genetically tested.
You can sort of check for them without testing, but it's still down to rng, by rolling a lot of test breeds, since the Test Breed function doesn't care if a pet is tested, it takes the pet genetics as they actually are to roll the example offspring.
Both parents of the vul in question have hidden m1's as is, or else the offspring couldn't have armored wings, since both parents have Jeweled Wings vis. One of the two has to have armored wings as the hidden, and the other either also has armored wings, or something that's more recessive than that and the offspring also has a hidden.
There are plenty of people who offer free genetic testing services in the Groups, Guilds, Clubs, and Services forum if you want to find out!

Neat! Here's to hoping their daughter's hidden mutation is jeweled wings then lol! Would be a shame to lose em. Aw well, I'm goin more for stats anyway I suppose.
Thanks for the info!

It cannot be Jeweled wings, as that's a more dominant trait, and would be the visible if it was there (trait letter D, armored wings is E)
Trait dominance goes down the alphabet (excluding N which is 'nothing', and is the most dominant letter), so trait A is more dominant than B, which is more dominant than C, etc
A pair of pets who have the genes that are AC and BD bred together can produce AB, AD, BC or CD, but couldn't produce a BA, DA, CB, or DC, because the Dominant letter of the two is always the visible one

Unfortunate! Oh well. More surprises in my future, then. I like those.
